Both the TNA and NWA wrestling promotions have been sent letters by Congressmen Bobby Rush and Clifford Stearns with an August 28th deadline to respond. The contents of the letter stipulate that they would like to request information on what policies these company’s have in comparison to the WWE’s Wellness Policy (uh-oh) or conversely what measures they have taken to be proactive in keeping drug abuse out of their companies. I think lumping the NWA into this is a bit of a far stretch, not that I don’t doubt there is usage on the independent level because to not believe that would be naïve, however the NWA is not in a position where financially they can police themselves at the rate that the WWE and TNA can – I’m not against the NWA being included but they cannot expect the NWA to have the same resources as the other two.
The WWE will issue their quarterly dividend of $0.24 per share on September 26th with Vince McMahon taking in $11.7 million as he is the largest shareholder.
Despite the last point, the WWE is cutting costs by eliminating the name plates they have been using for all their championship titles with the champion’s name listed on the belt.
Canadian Wrestling Entertainment has won a 13-month lawsuit with the WWE over ownership of their Ontario Championship Title. The last holder of the title was current WWE performer Robbie McAllister, who won the title and was then signed by the WWE. The WWE wanted to use the title in a storyline but CWE fought the attempt and have now retained ownership of the title.
The Iron Sheik is about to begin touring with the Killers of Comedy group.
