SummerSlams 1992 and 2004 are the only SummerSlams to take place outside the United States. They took place at Wembley Stadium in London, England and the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario respectively. SummerSlam 1992 is also the only WWE pay per views to take place outside of the Americas.
The Hart Foundation faced the World Tag Team champions at each of the first three SummerSlams. They were unsuccessful against the Demolition in 1988, unsuccessful against the Brain Busters in a non-title match in 1989, but gained their 2nd reign as champions by defeating Demolition at SummerSlam 1990 in the best 2 of 3 falls contest.
On two separate occasions that being SummerSlam 88' and 90', Brutus Beefcake was originally supposed to be the challenger for the Intercontinental Championship. He was replaced both cards with Ultimate Warrior & Kerry Von Erich respectively. These two cards both produced title changes leading fans to believe the Brutus Beefcake was intended to have a reign in his WWE career as the Intercontinental Champion.
Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, John Cena, and Edge are undefeated in one-on-one matches at SummerSlam.
The Intercontinental Championship has changed hands everytime it has ever been defended in a singles matches (with no added stipulations) at SummmerSlam. There is one exception however, that being Shawn Michaels who successfully defended the title against Mr. Perfect in 1993. Though it had stipulations, he retained against Razor Ramon in a Ladder Match in 1995. Edge retained the title in a Triple Threat Match in 2004.
SummerSlam has seen more Ladder Matches than any other World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Pay-Per-View. 1995, 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2005 all featured Ladder Matches. However in April 2006 WrestleMania 22, WrestleMania tied with PPV Ladder matches. (1994, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006.)
SummerSlam 1992 was the only SummerSlam ever to take place in an open air venue. The event attracted 80,355 fans to Wembley Stadium in London, England.
One of the most infamous bloopers in pro wrestling history took place at Summerslam '89. Backstage announcer "Mean" Gene Okerlund was set to interview then-WWF Intercontinental Champion Rick Rude and Rude's manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan prior to Rude's title defense against The Ultimate Warrior when the Summerslam backdrop fell backwards. An off-camera Vince McMahon could be heard saying "Nice move", followed by Okerlund yelling "Fuck it". The cameras immediately cut away to a live shot of the crowd, with play-by-play announcer Tony Schiavone and color commentator Jesse "The Body" Ventura immediately attempting to restore order. After a short while, Okerlund's interview with Rude and Heenan proceeded without incident.
Another blooper was at Summerslam 1998 during The Undertaker's entrance, when fireworks were scheduled to go off in the ring. Referree Earl Hebner was in the ring at the time, and someone could be heard yelling "Get out Earl!" Hebner barely escaped the ring before the fireworks went off.
SummerSlam 2007 is scheduled to take place in New York's Madison Square Garden. This will be the fourth time SummerSlam will take place there, along with SummerSlam 1988, 1991, and 1998.
The Undertaker has competed at 14 consecutive Summerslam events (1992-2005), a record for both consecutive and overall appearances. His Summerslam win-loss record is 8-5-1.
Both Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior are undefeated at Summerslam at 5-0.
