Hey folks,
Since with the update, we're all stuck with that weird grey egg-headed dude next to our posts until we add our own picture, I figured I'd offer up my services to make animated gifs for anyone who wants them. If you'd like one, just find a video on youtube that has the one or two seconds you'd like to capture and post:
1. A link to the video 2. The time of the moment you'd like to capture (a verbal description would also be helpful) 3. How much of the shot you want (e.g., the whole thing, or just a small square)
Animated gifs are pretty quick and easy to make, so the turnaround should be under one day, even if I'm busy.
Cheers, Garrett

Nathan Williams has one as well.

Actually, Garrett, care to share the knowledge? Shamefully, I've never made a GIF lol. Made a million banners, but never that.

Would love to take you up on that, but I haven't a clue how "ok" it is to use scenes from Fringe, even if they are on YouTube.

a GIF incorporated into a banner would be brilliant...only thing I've ever seen like it is the Triple H on Nathan uses on Jimmy Williams' profile...

I've tried a lot of different gif-making programs over the last few years, but so far the best I've found is Photoscape (free software). It has a mode specifically for making animated gifs with really simple drag-and-drop functionality. It's just a matter of getting all the frames you need, putting them in the right order, and setting the length of time (in hundredths of a second) that you want each one to be shown. There are a few effects options, but I mostly don't use them.
To get all the frames, I use youtube downloader to get the video, and VLC media player to advance frame-by-frame and take screenshots. If they need to be cropped, I use photoscape for that too.
And thus divulging my secrets, I render myself again obsolete...

And Joshua (erk...I hope I'm remembering your name right) I'm pretty sure things like profile gifs fall legally under the "Fair Use" guidelines of American copyright, so it shouldn't be a problem. Especially since nobody's making any money off of it.

Don't worry about being obsolete. If that's your thing, I ain't touching it lol. It's just good to know is all.

That's what I figured, but my Napster days are long behind me and I like staying on the law's good side.
Also, though I prefer Josh, you got it right :-)

The Clip:
I'd like from :33 to :35, with the Observer cut out if possible. If not, just get the second part after the hit. I just want the left side with Peter, hopefully it fits the new picture size.
Thanks!

Here you go. Turns out if you cut out the dude falling back, the actual hit only takes about a quarter of a second and looks a little wimpy, so I made a judgement call and just gave you the intense eyes. If you'd like to try something else, I'm more than willing to take another whack at it. Attachments:

Hmm...maybe a little too intense. Might go the other way with this one: about :35 to :36. Just the face is fine. Promise this is the last one!

Alrighty, is this the shot you meant? Don't feel bad if you want to try more. Like I said, these are quick to make so it's no inconvenience on my end. Attachments:
