Pay-Per-View Planning Labelled 'A Living Hell'
Prince William Security Concerns Causing Headaches for All Involved
Ongoing security issues have led Heatwave X to be labelled a 'logistical and creatively restrictive living hell' by one senior GZW2K1 official.
Cold water has been poured over the flames which burned so brightly just a few short weeks ago. Indeed, GZW2K1's 'Huge Announcement' that British Royal and heir to the throne, Prince William, would be a special guest 'Ringside Enforcer' at Heatwave X had the entire world talking.
The mainstream media had GZW2K1 plastered all over the front pages of their tabloids, and the Atlanta-based wrestling promotion had been making headline news worldwide. Thanks to Prince William's advertised involvement, Heatwave X is set to perform better than any other pay-per-view in broadcast history, with a large percentage of non-wrestling fans said to be purchasing the event in order to find out how the future King of Great Britain involves himself in the drama.
However, mounting security costs, complex logistical factors and severely hampering creative limitations have all played their part in GZW2K1 greatly cooling its enthusiasm in recent weeks. Indeed, Prince William has barely been mentioned on GZW2K1 television at all.
Clancy McClean and Sir Chris Cairns have both been off television for four weeks now with insider sources suggesting that GZW2K1 does not wish to overhype their encounter due to the risk of unforeseen circumstances regarding Prince William's role.
The major worry for GZW2K1 is that The Duke of Cambridge will not appear at all.
ITN's Senior Royal Correspondent Ron Vickers: "If various factions - including the UK Government - are not satisfied with security arrangements, then Logan Corzair had better get ready to dish out some serious refunds to viewers. There is no way a member of the Royal Family will be appearing at a public event where personal safety may be compromised."
It is seeming very likely at this stage that Prince William will not appear before the live crowd on June 30th, but will instead appear in various pretaped vignettes.
One idea being floated by creative right now is to have Prince William carrying out his role as 'Special Guest Ringside Enforcer' live via satellite.
As has been made clear to everybody, Prince William will in no way become psychically involved at Heatwave X.
The whole affair could get very embarrassing for GZW2K1. The big question going into the event may not be who the GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Champion will be by night's end. Rather, the big question may well centre around whether or not Prince William will appear as advertised...
