On with the questions...
Juan Luis from Mexico City asks:
Hi WrestleBuzz, do you know if GZW2K1 will ever do another Contest of Champions Battle Royale? I have always been a fan of this particular match format due to its unpredictable and chaotic nature. However, I always wondered what the 'significance' was in becoming a Contest of Champions winner. What is the point? Why do the Globalstars want to win these matches so badly?
WrestleBuzz columnist Darrell Davis answers:
I too like the Contest of Champions match format. I think these battle royales have become a very special match within GZW2K1 history due to their scarcity and limited appearances. Most CoC matches have a title on the line or number one contendership to a championship. The Contest of Champions battle royale will undoubtedly return one day, but there is never a set schedule for these things.
Mike Carson from Los Angeles asks:
Hi WrestleBuzz! Your website is an invaluable resource for us true wrestling fans, so please do keep up the good work. Anyway, here is my question: Why did it take Lord Leon Corbin so many years to once again become crowned GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Champion? Was he being punished/tested?
WrestleBuzz columnist Darrell Davis answers:
As invaluable as Lord Corbin is and remains to the company, he isn't the only Globalstar on the GZW2K1 roster. Future main eventers have to be made in order to ensure the continuation of the business. I honestly don't feel like there is any other reason than that.
WrestleBuzz editor Barry Mann answers:
The only person in GZW2K1 who ever felt that Leon Corbin was being punished was Leon Corbin himself. He successfully and very quickly established himself as an essential player when arriving in GZW2K1 back in the winter of 2005, and he has undoubtedly stood the test of time since then. However, backstage politics and his own paranoia have seen Leon become a difficult personality to work with at multiple times over the course of his career and he is known to feel hard-done-by if things do not go his way. Really, GZW2K1 only ever want for Leon to continue to succeed as he is the face of the company. However, sometimes it has been necessary to rotate him out of the limelight in order to give others a chance and Leon may not always see the bigger picture.
Joe Anderson from Memphis:
WrestleBuzz, you are the greatest wrestling news and opinion website ever and the hard work you guys do does not go unnoticed. With that said, I was wondering if you guys had any insider knowledge on The Chivalry Brothers, Justinian and Bartholomew? How are they perceived within the Globalverse by those in authority? Midcard comedy act? Potential headliners? In my opinion these two are a breath of fresh air and I think either could be GZW2K1's next big breakout singles star. Your thoughts?
WrestleBuzz editor Barry Mann answers:
GZW2K1 are high on The Chivalry Brothers but are smart enough not to make Justinian and Bartholomew the focus of shows. Trust has to be earned. GZW2K1, as the world leader in professional wrestling, has been stung many times by investing in talent who could not cope with the road schedule and who quickly retreated back to the more forgiving 'safe haven' of the vast indy scene (Brian Reaper, Red Dragon, Tamer, any number of wrestlers who are signed one month and gone the next), or foreign talents who became homesick or who could not fit into GZW2K1's global style (Amun Ma'at, Nobunaga, Annin), or talented personalities who otherwise suddenly become extremely difficult to work with (Rupert Martin). A contract with a promotion like GZW2K1 is a big commitment and there are any number of reasons as to why The Chivalry Brothers may or may not be part of the roster by the time Aftermath2K13 rolls around.
WrestleBuzz columnist Darrell Davis answers:
I have heard nothing but great things when it comes to the Chivalry Brothers. They have exhibited a humble approach backstage and have been willing to help out whenever needed, without being prodded. Since they were brought in together I don't foresee Creative breaking the duo up anytime soon but instead giving them a long healthy run in the main event spotlight.
Jack Russell from Tulsa asks:
Many Globalstars have had rocky relationships with GZW2K1 and many seemed to leave the company on bad terms. I was wondering if you could quickly offer some insight into what GZW2K1's current relationship is with the following individuals:
- Lord Seth Raide
- Icon Lord John Taylor
- Rupert Martin
- Zachary Sharp
- Vernon Vanderbilt
Thanks and keep up the good work!
WrestleBuzz columnist Darrell Davis answers:
Lord Raide - on again/off again. Rumored to be in line for induction into the next class of the Ring of Honor Icon.
Icon Lord Taylor - signed to an Icon contract. As much as the company would like for him to return in any kind of capacity, The Gunman is quite content to come and go as he pleases.
Rupert Martin - legit heat. Unless there is some major ego checking on both sides, The Kid will never return or be allowed back into the company.
Icon Zac Sharp - signed to Icon contract. Although there was/is some hurt feelings from the snub of his own Icon induction, the Saint turned Sinner is more than welcome in the company.
Vernon Vanderbilt - excellent terms. The Future Present is wholeheartedly welcome in the company at anytime he pleases.
Sara Hayes from Calgary asks:
Hi guys, me again! Who is the hottest free agent in wrestling right now? Would it be an already established main eventer who still has youth on their side - such as Zachary Sharp or Rupert Martin etc. - or would it be a lesser known name?
WrestleBuzz columnist Darrell Davis answers:
There are quite a bit of free agents that are hot right now who could be pulled into Trouble Trax in order to eventually make it to the big stage.
WrestleBuzz editor Barry Mann answers:
Zachary Sharp is a movie star now and Rupert Martin will likely never be seen in a wrestling ring ever again, I can almost garauntee it. You can't really consider either of them to be 'free agents.'
Joe Horton from Oregon asks:
Hi WrestleBuzz, I was just wondering why Vyle is regarded as one of the most disappointing GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Champions of all time. I was not watching wrestling back then, but I saw a couple of the guy's matches on TubeYou and he seemed really, really talented. What's the story behind his heavily criticized reign, and where is he now?
WrestleBuzz editor Barry Mann answers:
Vyle, like Rupert Martin, felt he was better than pretty much anyone else on the roster. Vyle, like Jon Kellar, complained heavily and hinted often that he would quit if he were not given a run at the top. Vyle, like Munin, was given a run at the top and failed miserably before then evaporating into thin air. He was not much of a team player unless working with - and putting over - his buddies, such as Jay Jameson and Quake. He was unapproachable, not open to ideas, and always found something to complain about. He openly admitted to not taking any interest in the promotion outside of his own little bubble. Many sources within the company cite Vyle as justifiably being the worst GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Champion of all time. GZW2K1's Head Booker at the time must also take some of the blame for putting the belt on such a recipe for disaster in the first place.
