The Honor Code 1. Sportsmanship: All competitors must shake hands before the bell and at the end of the match. 2. The Combat Arena: Wins are by pinfall, submission, knockout, stoppage or count-out. With the exception of a stoppage or count out all must occur within the ring. 3. Answer the Count: A knockout is declared if a wrestler cannot answer a 10 count inside the ring. To escape that count, a wrestler must make it to their feet and touch his corner before returning to the centre of the ring. 4. Choose your Battles: A 20 count begins if a wrestler leaves the ring. Any wrestlers outside the ring at the end of that 20 count are counted out, even if they were not the wrestler who started the count. Leaving the ring is discouraged but permitted. 5. Closed fists strikes to other parts of the body (save for low blows) are permitted. 7. Stay on Your Feet: Closed fist strikes against a downed opponent are completely forbidden. Impact moves such as body splashes and permitted submission holds may be applied. 8. Even Playing Field: Use of weapons, outside interference, or illegal holds or manoeuvres will result in immediate disqualification 9. One True Champion: In the event of a title match, the title can and will change hands if the champion is counted out or disqualified. 10. Respect: The referee’s decision is final. Violence against officials will not be tolerated.

C.O.M.P.E.T.E #1 "Welcome to the Underground"
Live on
The show opened at a new Underground location somewhere in Great Britain, though judging by accents it was likely to be quite some way north of London. Attendance was estimated to be around 900 people. Billy Thomas announced the card and introduced his special guest co-commentator, Joshua Samson. Unfortuantely Samson was unavailable due to being picked up by the police who mistook him for a drunken hobo. Jon Kellar made an appearance to introduce the bouts, and to congratulate the finalists in the Honor Code Championship tournament, Shogun and Squall Tate. He then introduced the first match. Bout 1: Sean "Silent" Richards v Billy "The Bruiser" Boston[/u] A clash between Karate and Boxing kicked off the night. At the request of both participants, and with General Kellar’s consent, the rule on closed fist punches to the face was relaxed in order to prevent any disadvantage to Boston.
The relaxation seemed to benefit the Bruiser as Boston took control early on with some well-timed strikes to the head, using his superior reach. After Richards answered two ten counts, the referee audibly warned him to keep his guard up or risk a stoppage.
That seemed to snap Richards into action, and he quickly began to use his stronger legwork to overpower Boston. A strong kick to the side of the knee rocked the bruiser, and a follow up kick to the head finished him off. Boston could not answer the 10 count, and was only able to get to his feet in time to shake his opponent’s hand.Winner: Sean “Silent” Richards by KO --- Richards thanked the crowd for their support, and paid tribute to his opponent, saying that he would gladly accept a rematch if offered --- Bout 2: Amelia "Thundercat" Williams v Lena "Rocker" Jones[/u] The women’s division followed, with two wrestlers going head to head.
Both competitors traded momentum early on, but it was the Thundercat who got the upper hand eventually. A few well-executed suplexes left Jones struggling for breath, with a fisherman driver looking like it would be the killer blow, only for Rocker to kick out at 2.
Thundercat, the more powerful competitor, continued to dominate proceedings until a whip across the ring put her on the receiving end of a cross body. Building momentum, Jones used her superior speed to lock in a head-scissor and turn Williams over with a hurricanrana for a surprise pin. Winner: Lena “Rocker” Jones by pinfall --- Interviewed at ringside, Lena Jones spoke at length about her plans to create a Women’s Title, and demanded that General Kellar move forward with those plans. --- Bout 3: Leo "Breaker" Skyboat v Devon "Scare" Richards[/u] Two old-style mat wrestlers going head to head on the pre-Main event excited the crowd, and the chance to see a veteran like Skyboat taking on one of the new blood
Skyboat earned the ire of the crowd by refusing the handshake, until he was forced to do so by the referee under threat of disqualification. After that, he and Richards traded standing holds for a short while until Richards took the veteran over with a side headlock takedown, before transitioning seamlessly into a triangle choke. Skyboat was able to reach the ropes, reducing his rope break count to 2.
After the break, Richards again took the upper hand, taking the veteran down to the mat with a kata ha jime (half nelson choke), which put both men on the mat. Again, Skyboat was forced to concede a rope break.
Apparently convinced he had built enough of an advantage for himself, Richards took his foot off the gas. Seemingly forgetting Skyboat’s flair for the underhanded, he found himself on the receiving end of a hard closed-fist punch to the face. It cost him his third and final rope break, but Skyboat never lookd back after that. Dominating the youngster with a series of hard body slams.
On Labell lock later, the rookie found himself tapping hard on the mat.Winner: Leo “Breaker” Skyboat by submission --- His trademark smug grin fully intact, Leo Skyboat talked at length about how he had been dominating the British wrestling scene years before anyone had heard of COMPETE or Jon Kellar. He announced that whoever won the final tonight would be well advised to enjoy their short reign, as he intended to challenge the champion at his earliest convenience. --- Pre-match interviews with the two tournament finalists followed. Squall Tate spoke at length about his pride at having reached the final, though he acknowledged not many people seemed to be betting on him against the bigger, undefeated Shogun. He said, however, that given his superior speed he felt he could pull off an upset. Shogun, unsurprisingly, greeted every question with a blank silent stare as he sat in his chains in the locker room. --- Main Event: “The Unstoppable” Shogun v Squall “Lionheart” Tate[/u] Shogun again came to the ring surrounded by security, with chains around his wrists and ankles. The crowd stomped and clapped rhythmically with each step while he stared straight ahead. When he reached the ring, security slowly removed his cuffs as the anger visibly built up inside him.
By contrast, Squall Tate entered the ring to a fanfare, modelling his trademark shining blue jacket. He entered the ring and led the crowd in a round of applause during the announcements.
As usual, Shogun’s handshake was almost robotic. Tate accepted and the bell rang.
Tate quickly unveiled his strategy: abusive and elusive. Rolling out of the way of Shogun’s opening charge, he sent the giant back into the corner with a dropkick, then followed up with several shoulders to the gut. As soon as Shogun went to grab him in a gutwrench, he backflipped out of the way and moved to the other side of the ring.
The Lionheart continued this strategy, managing to stay out of Shogun’s grasp and land a good number of hits. Unfortunately, few of the hits seemed to wear down the massive Shogun. It was only a diving cross body that managed to take the big man down, but even that produced less than a two count.
Tate appeared to change tactic, trying to cut down the big man with attacks focussed on the legs. A few diving shoulders to the backs of the knees sent the big man tumbling, but the follow up body splash failed to connect. That miss proved to be Tate’s downfall, and Shogun was finally able to lay his hands on the smaller man. After that, it was only a matter of time.
Shogun drove his opponent into the turnbuckle, then power-slammed him to the mat, pinning him for the three count to become the new Honor Code Champion.Winner: Shogun by pinfall Afterwards, Jon Kellar entered the arena with a title belt over his shoulder. He entered the ring and shook hands with both competitors before presenting the World Title belt to “The Unstoppable” Shogun. Then….

Post by Icon Lord Jon Kellar on Apr 22, 2014 13:34:50 GMT -6
Icon Kellar: Congratulations Shogun… a well deserved win. You are a credit to this organisation, a fighting champion who has reached the top by defeating everyone in his way.
Kellar hands Shogun the newly minted Honor Code Championship Belt, and the giant takes it from him, placing it over his shoulder without a word. He turns on his heel and leaves the ring, heading back up the ramp.
Icon Kellar: Lets hear it for the Honor Code Champion!
Crowd: Clapclapclap! SHOGUN! Clapclapclap! SHOGUN!
Shogun disappears backstage.
Icon Kellar: And now…
Kellar pulls out his mobile, and presses a few buttons.
Icon Kellar: I’m going to give everyone a class in revisionist history… as promised…
The crowd boos loudly
Icon Kellar: Don’t worry… I’m not going to expose you to the over commercialised nonsense that streamed out of Wembley… I’m just going to swap feeds… and let the whole world see what GZW2K1 didn’t want them to…
----
At the top of the ramp, Sean and Mickey continue to celebrate their victory, when suddenly Renan Carvello appears, steel chair in hand, and crashes it over the back of Sean’s head. The champion crumbles to the floor.
Crumb: WHAT THE HELLL???!!!
Mickey goes to avenge his team-mate with a right hand, but Carvello moves out of the way, and with a kick to the gut disposes of the Irishman by throwing him from the stage. Alex and Mongrel slowly make their way up the ramp as Carvello grabs Sean. Sean struggles and manages to clatter the martial artist with a hard left, but finds himself on the receiving end of a clothesline from an extremely pissed off Mongrel.
You don’t know… you just don’t know me at all!!!
Nelson: What??!
Crumb: He’s here???! How can he be…
Nelson: I guess he high tailed it from Croydon!!!
The crowd explodes as Icon Lord Kellar appears on the stage wearing a pair of jeans and his new t-shirt. Kellar clearly isn’t dressed for a match. Kellar, however, stays near the ZeroTron and doesn’t move as his music fades out. Instead, he gazes down at Sean and smiles.
Crowd: CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP!!! ICON KELLAR!!!! CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP!!! ICON KELLAR!!!
Samson: Lord Fathead’s brain dead followers are all behind him here…
Crumb: And Mongrel’s behind Locke!!!
As the three on one assault continues, Mongrel grabs Sean by the throat and lifts him up into the air.
Crumb: Look at the strength!
Nelson: He’s crushing the champion’s throat!!!
Samson: Heh… soon he really will be No-Spine Sean…
Sean kicks around in the grip, but eventually starts to fade. Just before his body goes completely limp, Mongrel slams him back down onto the stage. Sean gasps for air as Mongrel puts his giant sized foot on top of Sean’s head, pinning him down on the mat. Carvello, Cross and Mongrel stand side by side and look across at Kellar, who reaches into his back pocket and produces a microphone
Icon Kellar: Sean… while I’ve got your undivided attention, I’d like to take this opportunity to clear a few things up.
He signals to backstage and a stagehand appears, handing Kellar a steel chair.
Crumb: What the hell’s he going to do??!!!
Kellar simply unfolds the chair and sits down, just outside of Sean’s grasp. He then gestures to someone unseen with a throat cut gesture.
Samson: Oh good we’re going to listen to *static*
Icon Kellar: First I’m going to shut that weasel Samson up… sorry Patrick and Todd but I’m going to have to silence you too… can’t risk him stealing a headset…
Samson: *w..Static? f…static y…static*
Samson stands up and makes his way towards the timekeeper. Kellar points at Mongrel.
Icon Kellar: William… if Joshua so much as touches a microphone you have my full permission to do whatever is required to shut him up. Legal fees are no object…
Samson sits back down, hurriedly.
Icon Kellar: Now… Sean. On April 27 you and I are going to be in that ring together, so I’m going to settle a few things. Contrary to popular belief… I don’t hate you Sean. If I hated you, I’d have left you lying in that ring with every one of your limbs broken in half a couple of weeks ago in the Coliseum. Instead we parted on a handshake.
Kellar smiles as he watches Sean try to struggle out from underneath Mongrel’s boot. A stiff kick to the ribs from Alex Cross soon puts paid to that.
Icon Kellar: And whatever Marcellus Jackson might say on his pokey little radio show, I don’t think you’re a golden boy who’s had everything handed to you. I know from your perspective you’ve worked oh so hard to win that championship belt. I can understand why you feel that way, I really can.
Kellar wipes his face a little as the crowd continue to cheer.
Icon Kellar: But… just like I tried to tell you Sean… this isn’t about you. This is about me, and what this company did to me. I’ve been cast as Monarch’s little bitch, fed to three Icons in one night, had a title match I won retroactively declared a non-title match, and made to dress as a fricking bird…
Kellar points up at the ZeroTron.
Icon Kellar: But none of that compares to the fact that I have had to sit and watch Zachary Sharp pin me for the World Title at the start of every single broadcast for seven long years without ever getting a sniff at a rematch. It’s been long enough for you, a man who wasn’t even a speck of a speck on the GZW2K1 radar when I was top of the mountain, to become World Champion.
Kellar shakes his head.
Icon Kellar: But I guess I should thank you Sparkles, because all it took was an ambush and a few insult and in less than a month you offered me what GZW2K1 refused to for 7 long years. 7 years of watching that opening sequence and seeing Zachary Sharp take my title. 7 years of watching people come and go. 7 years waiting for GZW2K1 to give me what was rightfully mine. Hell, they didn’t even book me on this card… the last show before our match at War: Reloaded and I’m only on it because of some technical trickery.
Kellar smiles.
Icon Kellar: You’re so bloody predictable. So damned honourable and so damned “give the people what they want” that you’ve given me a chance to have what I really want… the last word against this company… because at War: Reloaded make no mistake about it I am going to take that World Heavyweight Championship from you.
The crowd cheers.
Icon Kellar: At War: Reloaded… I’m going to walk out of the O2 Arena in my birth town, and take that World Heavyweight Championship back to COMPETE with me. Maybe I’ll defend it against real wrestlers like Alex there in the underground, in real wrestling matches.
Kellar nods to Alex, and Alex nods back.
Icon Kellar: Maybe I’ll go over to Japan with it and defend it in UJW or Nipon Star Puro against real wrestlers. Or maybe I’ll just hang it above the entrance to the ring as a reminder of how quickly commercialism corrupts sport; a warning from history to the wrestlers of tomorrow. Maybe I’ll just hang it in my crapper, I dunno. So many choices.
Kellar shrugs
Icon Kellar: In any case, I’m going to sit back and watch as GZW2K1 floats over to Hong Kong without a World Champion, because I’m sure as hell not going to the land of garbage cans and barbed wire. Been there, done that, doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest. Maybe if you suck John Profit’s *bleep* enough he’ll let you have a shot at their title instead, but I doubt it.
Kellar smiles as the crowd ooh the expletive.
Icon Kellar: That will leave Alex there, with his Intercontinental title, as the top champion in this company, just as it should be; a real wrestler and a real athlete wearing the top gold. The man who should be World Champion right now will be the top champion by default, because I’m going to be sitting back in my chair in the Macheda Dojo with the GZW2K1 World Title belt.
Kellar nods
Icon Kellar: And we’ll see just what kind of a man you are. Because the powers that be will no doubt do what they always do… refuse to recognise me as champion and hand you the belt. Well, a belt at least. Are you going to go back on your word to me Sean? Are you going to be the corporate poster boy I’ve always said you are… oh I can’t wait to find out.
Kellar gestures towards Alex Cross, Renan Carvello and The Mongrel
Icon Kellar: Look at those men standing proud… one a World Champion martial artist, the other two trained by Icons… one of whom holds not one but two GZW2K1 titles.
Kellar smiles.
Icon Kellar: They are the future of this sport Sean… not you… not pop stars like Dante Mephisto… not thugs like Jonny Moretz or clowns like Mickey Tourette… real wrestlers.
Kellar gestures again to the men in front of him
Icon Kellar: People like William Saint, and I’m not going to use the derogatory name the Machine has given him, who’ve never been appreciated because they can’t be the “face” of the company. People like Alex Cross, held back for years because he doesn’t shift t-shirts. People like Renan Carvello, doomed to slum it in dark matches because he doesn’t speak English.
Kellar stands
Icon Kellar: And I know they’re not alone Globalverse… I know Devotion Profit-Williams precious little fantasy of her little empire with all her tin soldiers is getting you down. Maybe someone will do us a favour and run her over too…
The crowd audibly “ooohs” as Kellar crosses the line in spectacular form. Kellar himself simply reaches into his back pocket again and pulls out his phone
Icon Kellar: But failing that… I’m offering you all an opportunity. If you want to continue to sit around and watch popstars, poster boys, posers, psychos and thugs going “grrrr” into a microphone, do nothing. But I’m offering you an alternative. Very simple… one wrestler enters a ring and issues a challenge, another wrestler answers, they shake hands, they wrestle till one of them wins, and they part with another handshake. The way it used to be. The way it should be.
Icon Kellar holds his phone up towards the ZeroTron and presses a button. The ZeroTron cuts to static and then one by one the words “Composure, Order, Mastery, Patience, Energy, Timing, Execution… COMPETE” appear. COMPETE stays on screen.
Icon Kellar: If that sounds more your cup of tea…well then… all I can say is…
Icon Kellar pauses as slowly a small army of men emerge from backstage, all dressed in Kellar’s t-shirt and jeans. Among them are the two competitors from earlier that night, Shogun and Darren “Daring” Davis, this time standing side by side. Kellar smiles as his army forms either side of him, shortly joined by Cross, Renan and Mongrel.
Icon Kellar: Welcome to the Underground!
The signal cuts to static before showing the COMPETE logo, and then slowly fades out.
