"Hello?"
"What's up, Leon?"
"Oh Thomas. Hey."
"How you feeling, brother of mine?"
"Could be better, could be worse. Doctor has me on the anti-inflammatories because of the lower back pain. How have you been?"
"I'm good. Just anti-inflammatories? After all the punishment and the fall from the top of the Chamber?"
"It's the stronger stuff but if all I have is a bit of back pain after that, I'm not gonna complain."
"How you holding up mentally?"
"I'm alright. Just focusing on getting the body back to where it should be after the fall. I took it harder than I should have as I wasn't expecting that piece of shit to give way that easily in that fashion. They don't make them lke they used to..."
"After seeing that fall it doesn't seem like they do. So not walking out with the title hasn't thrown you off your game has it? From what I hear you've been eerily absent from the airwaves."
"No more than anyone else. Except I have been recuperating. If you think I am going out there to cut a promo with all my physical weaknesses on display so they can be taken advantage of at the next show...No, that's not happening. I gather it's why Alex has had nothing to say as well."
Leon sighs with only slight aggression.
"I was only supposed to shit him up on top of that roof of the cage, Thomas. I can't shake it that something is off, y'know? We shouldn't have gone through."
"Hmm? Why and by whom though? You think it might be a part of all that Clan Mayhem nonsense?"
"I don't know. If I wanted the thing to go through, don't you think I'd have chosen a move that would have only sent Alex through and not the both of us? But I don't know who erected the cage and now you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a hand in it. I did, after all, insist they stay away from my match. And they did that. Thing is, they're too stupid to heed words from those above them so who is to say they didn't do something to affect the match."
"True but that really doesn't sound like their method of operation. They are the muscle to someone else's brain. William and I have been talking and he definitely thinks they are being orchestrated by someone with a measurable amount of executive pull."
"I am aware of that much or they'd be carted out among other things as they are not formally employed and would be seen as any other dangerous fan normally. They are a welcome guest, clearly. And as for the four figureheads of Clan Mayhem doing such a thing, maybe, maybe not. If they are allowed entry, who knows what else they're given access to. Or if there are more than just the four under this fucker's orders. And while it's clear that an executive is giving them free reign, that's great but people are dropping like flies. If me and Alex didn't know how to think on our feet, so to speak, we could have had more than just our match ending prematurely, Thomas. Someone else is trying to wreck the roster beyond the scope of the sport. Accidents happen but this was not an accident."
"Have you talked to the Old Man about any of this?"
"As if he would tell me anything one way or the other..."
"You never know unless you try, Leon."
"But he's letting this happen. He's in charge and he's allowing this to happen, Thomas. What if this is his injection of throwing people off and forcing them out of their comfort zones?"
"It does sound like the Old Man but at the same time I'm not so sure. Honestly this all sounds very Strife-ish."
"And he wouldn't put a stop to it? After all this time?"
"Put a stop to something Aunt Nikki did?"
"Well, why would he? Didn't they work hand in hand years ago?"
"They did but both have changed A LOT since that time. Besides I really don't want to believe Aunt Nikki is making any powerplay in GZW2K1. It would be pointless to her."
"Pointless or amusing? I love aunt Nikki, but she is an evil bitch when she wants to be. Personally, I think it's the same person behind The Slaughterhouse. Plan B after Davina and the rest of them screwed up?"
"Sounds like a sound theory but it seems like both groups were after two different things. The Slaughterhouse wasn't looking to destroy GZW2K1 while Clan Mayhem are."
"Interpretation. Slaughterhouse were employed and had a reason to take everything they could get their hands on, Clan Mayhem are showing as much dominance but have nothing to lose being outsiders. They're not all that so different when you look at it."
"I don't see it, Leon, but anything is possible. I just can't fathom the Old Man or Aunt Nikki involved this. Both have worked too hard to keep GZW2K1 going over the years."
"No, it's a bit too slap dash for Nikki, I suppose. Maybe it's someone trying to be on that kind of wavelength but hasn't got a fucking clue what they're doing. I just think maybe Dad knows more about it than he'd ever let on is all."
"It's always something with GZW2K1."
"Sometimes I wish I'd have jumped ship to UJW when I had the chance..."
"Imagine what the Globalverse would have been like if you had."
"A lot less intimidated about a Corbin stepping over them to get to the top? More inclined to pull their weight because of that?"
"Well there will be a spot open for you in UJW come the beginning of the year. Win or lose, my upcoming defence against Symon will be my last."
"Why? Are you retiring? Changing brand?"
"I decided that I was going to go ahead and retire. After our last talk when you were here in Japan, Rachel and I talked and decided it was in our best interest. I don't want to be a 'commuter father', Leon. My marriage, my unborn child deserves so much more than the way we raised."
"I know. Oh, I know. And I don't blame you. I am lucky that I have a wife in the industry and a great support network when it comes to family life and the kids. But as a UJW champion, you could get away with the special appearances. It's...hard to let go completely."
"I can imagine but right now it's for the best. Besides if the itch becomes too strong I can always make the rare appearance in GZW2K1 while you guys are home."
"Absolutely. So how is Rach anyway?"
"Doing good especially with just three months left to go. Excited for Cassie to get here."
"Wow, only three months now? Where does the time go?"
"My thoughts exactly. Speaking of wives, how's yours holding up? That was a hellacious match between her and Raze."
"Physically she's doing okay but there is definitely something on her mind though. I hope I can get it out of her quickly as we have a tag match at the next show."
"Think she's having regrets about returning?"
"I think it might be more performance related. And I know she misses the kiddies. Don't tell anyone. It'll ruin her image heh."
The Blood King lets out a chuckle from his end of the line before speaking again.
"She didn't look bad in that match though I think she should have dominated Raze. I've never thought highly of his work though."
"Maybe but she's a perfectionist, strives to be the best, trains damn hard and is often her own worst critic. Anything less than that and she's hard on herself."
"Well just reassure her that she can't judge anything by having a match against Jericho Cross."
"Perhaps but I think she never quite get over the whole Mickey match, y'know. I've never seen her behave like that. God knows what was going through her mind out there that night but maybe it's that which plagues her at the moment."
"She'll figure it out before long. Eva's always been a smart wrestler."
"That she has."
"Alright, bro, I'm out. I have to give Rachel a call."
"No problem. Nice talking to you."
"Remember that the phone works both ways, Leon. Talk to you later."
"I hear ya. Take care..."
