He'd moved on. Tonic water just wasn't going to cut it anymore so he found himself in a bar instead, sat in the corner with just one glass though, even if it was a double scotch on the rocks. His head was swimming, unusual for the normally levelheaded member of the referee squad of GZW. He wasn’t exactly out of place, moody drinkers tended to congregate here. They were usually out by now though, giving way to the crowds and people making a night of it. Whether he knew it or not he’d caught the eyes of a few of the more perceptive revellers out for the long haul and already getting buzzed. A loud laugh cuts through the din, joined almost instantly by giggles. Girl’s night from the sounds of it. The barely dressed young women crowded the bar, calling out obscene cocktail names. The poor barman didn’t seem to know where to look. He ended up with an earful or an eyeful either way. Standing on the edge of the group and at least having the decency to feel a little ashamed, she spotted him. Girl’s night was a long standing tradition among her little group. Though in the old days it had always included Munin and Hayden too, they still made a point to get out and let their hair down. A whispered conversation with the redhead beside her, left Katrina offering an appraising look for the ref. She giggled, elbowed her sister in law and handed her a drink. Leaving the rowdy group Eva sipped her drink as she approached him.
Eva: Y’alright love? You look a little out of it.
Trystan: Hm?
Broken out of the trance he was in, he looks up, eyes a little glazed. He offers a smile for the woman.
Trystan: Eva? What are you doing in a place like this?
Eva: I think it was sold to me as having fun? I dunno. Not my scene but Katrina asked me to come out. She’s the red head in the blue dress.
Turning her attention back to the gaggle at the bar she shrugged.
Eva: Though I suppose dress is being a little generous…
Trystan looks over briefly. She wasn't kidding when she used the word "generous". He tips his head a little and looks back at Eva.
Trystan: Care to join me?
A cackle from behind her actually made her cringe. Taking a deep breath she slipped into the seat opposite him. She could still see the bar from here.
Eva: Why not? So what brings you to this….establishment?
Trystan: Fancied a change in scenery? Heh, hilarious considering what I do when I am not doing anything GZW, I guess.
Eva: I dunno, I’d buy it if the scenery was better.
Pausing with her drink halfway to her lips, her attention was back on the bar. Somebody had ordered something with sparklers. It catches his eye as well, causing the man to squint.
Trystan: I just need something a little stronger for today is all.
Eva: What’s wrong with today? And what are you drinking anyway?
Trystan: Only a double whiskey. Just...to take the edge off. I...spoke to Joy earlier.
Snorting into her drink she wipes her mouth on the back her hand.
Eva: And you need a drink to take the edge off? What happened?
Trystan: She's making things difficult as always. That's what happened. I've had enough. She expects me to only converse with Misty when it comes to getting access to Secret and even then it's on her terms or not at all. I just don't understand why it's like this. I've never done anything to that woman or behaved in a way that should bring this all about. I just don't understand. And then by the end of the call, which again ended on her terms, I didn't get to make any arrangements.
Eva: And you’ve no idea at all why she’s acting like this?
Trystan: I honestly don't. It's been this weird since the day she randomly decided to break up with me. Again...on her terms. It's like she enjoys the control.
Eva: Yeah…It’s a possibility….a bloody bizarre one….but still…
Trystan: I'm so sorry. You're supposed to be having a night out, enjoying yourself. I really don't want to bring the mood down. And I promise, I'm not usually so negative.
Swirling the ice in her glass she actually smiled. Back at the bar the women were growing more boisterous.
Eva: You worry far too much. I know you’re not usually all doomy, that’s my thing. Right now though, sounds like you’ve got reason to be.
Trystan: But where does it stop? And now she's got some guy, which I'm fine with but I'm worried that as he's the one Secret is going to see all the time, he'll be her father figure. That's not right, Eva.
Eva: No, it’s not. Legally what can you do?
Trystan: Well, that depends. I'd have a case, but she's a Fortune so who knows what crap she could cause to make things difficult. I don't think I could deal with that stress. So what do I do? Leave it? Forget I have a child or keep hurting myself with this nonsense?
Eva: Right now, I’d suggest another drink. It’s one of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t situations.
Trystan: I'll take that offer. Can I get you another?
Shaking her head she holds up her still mostly full glass.
Eva: If you’re going up there though I’d avoid the blonde…..and the redhead…..Hell just go to the other end of the bar.
Trystan: If you're sure. I'll be right back.
Knocking back whatever was left in his glass, he stands and wanders over to the bar...the other end. In moments he's back with a refill and slipping back into his seat.
Eva: So, has she always been unreasonable or is this a recent development?
Trystan: Ever since the split. It's just getting unbearable. Like she's punishing me for something but what? I was only ever respectful to her.
Eva: Maybe that’s the problem. Some birds like to be treated mean.
Trystan: Do they, Eva?
He eyes the woman curiously.
Eva: I know you aren’t that naive darling.
Trystan: I'm not. You stayed with Leon and for whatever reason at one time I'd have had that...man in spite of all his faults and aggression. But even if that's the case with her, why does she need to do all this? What is all this in aid of? Her argument cannot be "I'm going to break up with you and keep destroying you for years to come because you're a nice guy!" That just doesn't make sense!
Eva: Some people don’t know how to deal with nice…….but still. You’d know her better than I ever did.
Trystan: I don't think I do...
Eva: No?
Trystan: No, I really don't.
He emphasises with a large mouthful from his tumbler.
-Eeeeeevs!
Turning her head at a completely unnatural angle to look behind her without moving, she’s rewarded with a loud kiss on the forehead. You could actually hear the “mwah”. Katrina wasn’t drunk yet, she’d barely had a sip of her vodka and coke. Yet she was in high spirits. Throwing her arms around the raven haired beauty’s neck, he held a shot glass in each hand. Even startled Eva had the presence of mind to move them before they spilled on her.
Katrina: Gent over there brought shots….
The gent in question looked anything but, which seemed to amuse the redhead no end. Giggling she slopes off back to the group.
Eva: Sorry…about, well them.
Trystan: It's absolutely fine. These eyes have seen so much worse...
Eva: Same here really. Still, you were trying to brood in peace.
Trystan: Maybe the last thing I need right now is peace. It's fine, really. I welcome the distraction.
She wasn’t drinking, her water and lemon looking deceptively enough like vodka to avoid questions from her sister-in-law. Yet she picked up the shot and downed it. The liquorice flavoured spirit burning as she swallowed it.
Eva: Maybe, but I’m probably the last person you should be talking to about all this. I suffer from chronic foot in mouth.
Trystan: I've known Leon for years, I can handle foot in mouth...
Her shrug indicated it was his choice, she had warned him. He nodded, seemingly understanding her shrug before he takes another mouthful.
Trystan: Where is he anyway seeing this is a ladies night out?
He finds some humour, even if it is short lived.
Eva: He’s too much of a diva. I left him getting a makeover…..Last I saw, Danny was drawing a tattoo on his arms.
Trystan: How did he do it? How did he of all people get lucky and have that family unit in spite of everything?
Eva: You said it yourself…..luck….good and bad.
Trystan: It's an unfair world...
Eva: Yup.
Trystan: Eva...I think I am going to go back to my hotel room and I think you should go back to enjoying your evening.
That got an eye roll from the woman, though as if on cue the redhead returns. Eyeing Trystan she rests her arms across the back of Eva’s chair.
Katrina: Ev’s were heading to the next bar, you coming? And is Mr tall, dark and handsome joining us?
The look Eva aimed at Trystan very clearly told him to get out while he still could. He didn't need telling twice and he certainly wouldn't have been in the mood for it anyway, giving a polite shake of the head.
Trystan: I'm heading elsewhere, Miss.
The sulky pout the redhead wore faded the instant she was handed another drink. Holding Eva’s hand she pulls her back to the bar with her. Watching Trystan leave Eva slips her phone from her purse. Dialling while the next round was ordered.
Eva: Hello lover, I need a favour……well two.
Eva: Y’alright love? You look a little out of it.
Trystan: Hm?
Broken out of the trance he was in, he looks up, eyes a little glazed. He offers a smile for the woman.
