It was an overly calm Munin that waited outside a worn dressing room door. Seemingly intent on studying every nick and scratch in the paint. She didn’t have to wait for long before it opened slowly. The woman stepping out of the room was every bit as scratched and damaged as that door. Changed and showered she’d done her best to cover as much of the visible damage from her match before she had to go home. She hadn’t expected to see Munin, not yet anyway. Although it doesn’t take long for her surprise to fade to concern.
Are you alright?
Without saying a word Munin carefully reaches out to hold Eva's wrist. Well aware of how little the woman typically enjoyed being touched. She waits for Eva to relax before turning her arm gently from side to side. Observing each defensive bruise with the same calm intent that she applied to the door.
Did he hurt your neck?
Her tone was as careful and overly calm as her touch, but there was an undercurrent of something in her voice. Something unsettling that had made more than one person uneasy upon hearing it. The new Intercontinental Champion was included among those. Shaking her head to indicate that she could still move it she lets her gaze linger with the woman.
No, the medics cleared me…..without bullying I might add. It’s the biggest target on me, so I cover where I can. He got my ribs and my head feels like the day after a night out with you and Hay……but I’m alright Nin.
With a slight nod of acknowledgment, Munin releases her hold, and lets out a breath of relief.
Good, that's...
Trailing off for a moment she pushes a hand through hair.
Christ Eva, I'm glad that Leon got to him before I did.
Yeah…..but I wouldn’t have wanted you to put yourself in that position.
I know that all too well, and it has held me back more times than I can count. Perhaps I'm over reacting, but honestly at this point I don't care. He crossed a line tonight.
Letting her stare drop the raven haired beauty exhaled heavily. Even with her guard down she resisted wincing.
Nins, you know I care about you. I really don’t want to see you do something you might regret. Just how deep the cracks run here? Is this about more than tonight? ‘Cause we both know I’ve had my arse kicked worse than this by Leon.
Stilling in mid motion Munin contemplates Eva's words, and slowly the tension in her body starts to fade. Dropping her arm to her sides she meets Eva's vivid hazel gaze with a look of resignation.
Maybe so...I've done horrible things over the years Eva, we both have. Some things you carry with you, and many things just don't matter as much as they ought to. We did them we accepted the consequences of caring or not caring, and we live with it.
Looking away from Eva she begins to fiddle with the sleeve of her jacket.
Needless to say I am not a hypocrite and have very little room to judge Alex's actions.
She actually smiled at that it was a small gesture, her lips curling briefly at the corners. Eva was a hypocrite and wouldn’t deny it even if causally asked.
You can judge him all you like love. You’re one of the few people he’d actually listen to, who actually has the right. I just don’t want you to do something because of me. I’m not worth it……question is, is he?
He is worth more than he realizes, and that's the problem. We can live with the things we've done, but I seriously wonder if he can live with the things he will do if he continues down the road he's taking……..Don't get me wrong the man has a past. One that he has just started to stop torturing himself over, but it isn't the same thing. Tonight he crossed a line a personal line, and if he keeps crossing it the question won't be if he's worth it.
She pauses for a moment letting her words hang in the air, as she finally put words to thoughts that had been swimming in her mind.
The question will be is whether the man he becomes is worth it.
As the words leave her mouth they seem to take something else with them. Her eyes are suddenly tired, and her shoulder hunched ever so slightly.
Business and real life are separate, but what he did tonight...
She stops at a loss for words, and absently flicks a strand of long black hair behind her ear. It was never easy to open up this much to someone.
Can you honestly tell me that the Alex you knew would do what he did to you tonight? I wanted to believe he was just walking the proverbial tight rope. Tonight has me thinking otherwise, and I worry for him more than anyone else.
Letting her friend’s words sink in Eva eventually nodded. They’d known each other over half their lives. Seen the best and worst of the world, caused some of it too if they were honest. Right now the woman was hurting, and there was very little Hikari could do about it. The path he was walking wouldn’t lead him anywhere good. Munin was right to be worried, though Eva didn’t have the heart or the right to tell her that.
Have you spoken to him yet?
No, honestly. I truly am pissed at him for what he pulled tonight. I thought it best to not talk to him until I was less well...stabby.
Good call. Calm down first love. You are right…..about a LOT….but stabbity is never good.
Munin cocks her head to the side contemplating Eva's words.
No I think stabby is sometimes the perfect idea, but I agree that in this situation you're right. I have to handle this the right way. There is Travis to think of as well after all.
Aye, just sucks that the right way isn’t always the easy one. Hell, it’s never the easy one. Just….just don’t forget that you’re not alone in this. Whatever the right choice ends up being for you guys, I’m here if you need me.
At those last words a new light enters Munin's eyes. Her thoughts and emotions previously so jumbled are all together to clear. It was that simple wasn't it?
That's right you're always there. You always have been there and always will be there. That's what this all comes down to in the end isn't it. You are more precious to me than most people will understand, the constant that has always been there since I met you. Blood or not we've been through absolute hell together, and never once thought about leaving the other behind. You're my sister, and what he did in that ring wasn't business it was personal.
Straightening her posture to perfection once more. She smoothes a hand down her shirt, as if by doing so she is straightening her own inner wrinkles.
He attacked you, after the match in a personal unprovoked attack, and knew what he was doing. There was no loss of control in that ring tonight.
With each word her mask of calmness rebuilds, and her voice grows cold.
Actions have consequences whether you care about your actions or not, and my dear Alex broke the rules.
The cold was more unsettling than hearing her upset. She’d reached a conclusion though, the determination was there blazing in her eyes. Eva was still concerned, it radiated off her even in her silence. There was no changing her mind when she had it set on something.
Are you alright?
