A low rumble filled the area along with the smell of stale smoke. Sitting alone with a bottle of Corona in front of him was the now former IC Champion Alex Cross. He glanced up at the television to see a rerun of Crimson airing. He shook his head and took a long drag from the bottle before setting it down.
"This won't cut it. Give me a couple of shots of the strongest stuff you got."
He finished the bottle off before sliding it down the bar towards the barkeep. The barkeep nods in acknowledgement. In the far corner out of sight by the number one contender to the GZW2K1 Heavyweight Championship sat three figures: two women and an imposing male. Upon closer inspection it is the collective known as Warpath.
Killjoy: Isn't that Alex Cross?
Mongrel and Piper look about.
Piper: Where? I don't see him.
Killjoy: Over there at the bar.
Mongrel: Indeed that is Mister Cross. Excuse me, ladies.
Piper: Don't cause a scene, William.
Killjoy: Or do...
The heavily tattooed sister of William Saint cracks an evil smile as she watches her big brother make his way over to the bar. In just a few short steps for the massive man he stands alongside where Alex is seated.
Mongrel: May I join you, Mister Cross?
Alex looks up from towards the massive man standing beside him and simply shrugs.
"Might as well. This nights already gone to shit so not like it could get any worse."
The bartender sets down the two shots and within seconds both are kicked back and slid back down the bar. Alex rubs at his chest before shaking his head.
"Two more!"
Mongrel: Business related problems or female related?
Mongrel saddles up next to Alex.
Alex can't help but laugh as he looks over at the beast beside him.
"I guess you could say both seeing as one has caused the other."
Alex looks back up at the television as he watches himself assaulting Lady Eva. He turns back to the Mongrel before pointing at the screen.
"Case in point."
Mongrel: Almost a thing of beauty. Shame it was perpetrated against my niece but such is the business of this sport.
Back at the table Killjoy and Piper can be seen looking on intently.
Mongrel: Feeling remorseful?
Alex smirks to himself as the drinks are set back down in front of him.
"I know I probably should be but I'm not. What happened inside that ring wasn't personal it was just business. Yet some people don't see it like that, instead they see it as me losing control of myself and making something personal."
"I have no problem with Lady Eva and I think she's a hell of a wrestler as well as a credit to this business. So what I did wasn't because I hold any ill will towards her it was because her husband chose to make his presence felt and I chose to use her to set an example."
He downs the two shots before grabbing the nearby Corona bottle that had been placed in front of him and taking a drink.
Mongrel: I can only assume that your significant other is the one that you speak of that doesn't quite see your perspective?
Alex nods as he touches his nose to signal hitting the nail on the head.
"The one and only."
Mongrel: Funnily enough wasn't it just you a few months ago that swore unholy war against me for the actions that I placed upon Lady Munin?
Alex can't hold back his laughter as he looks over at Mongrel.
"Oh trust me, that was brought but she wasn't hearing it. Her defense was that what you did was about protecting family and what I did was about hurting family."
Alex sighs.
"Needless to say I called horse shit on that and so here I sit."
Mongrel: I suppose it can been viewed from both angles. I can't blame Lady Munin for the stance she is apparently taking though I do understand your reasoning. You are firmly placed between a rock and a hard place indeed, Mister Cross.
"Why else would I be sitting here drinking myself into a stupor when I swore off the stuff after my last DUI? Needless to say I'm in a position I can't win. So now she's run off to stay with Eva, no doubt talking about anything and everything she can and I'm sat here getting shit faced."
Mongrel: Back to England is quite a long jaunt to commiserate.
Mongrel throws up four fingers to the bartender before pointing to himself and Alex.
Mongrel: Have you thought that this could be an elaborate scheme by the Machine to knock you off your course?
"Quite an elaborate one if you ask me if indeed that's what it is. Though I know my course and it ends with me beating Leon within an inch of his life. I don't care what means I have to use to make it happen just so long as it happens."
Mongrel: Just think upon it for one moment, Mister Cross. You are set to once again face Leon for the World Heavyweight Championship at Anniversary Armageddon 2015 yet the most pressing issues that you are dealing with is whether or not Lady Munin approves of your actions that were par the course for the sport that we make a living within. I find that far too coincidental.
"I honestly can't argue the facts, though I find it unlikely that Munin would agree to anything of the sort."
Mongrel raises an eyebrow at Alex. The bartender makes it over with four more shots.
Mongrel: You would know her better than I would, Mister Cross.
He raises one of the shot glasses toward Alex.
Mongrel: Salud!
Alex grabs the shot and lifts it up.
"Salud!"
Without hesitation Alex downs the drink and slams the glass down.
"Munin is far from a saint but I honestly think she loves me and wants to see me succeed. Agreeing to go along with this would mean that I'd been played by her for over a year all to keep me away from the World Title."
He looks at the bottom of the shot glass.
"I don't think she would or could though she's far from a saint and she'll be the first to say that."
Mongrel: If you say so.
He shrugs and holds up the next shot glass.
Mongrel: Salud!
Alex grabs the other glass and lifts it up.
"Salud!"
He slams it back before putting it back on the bar. He looks at the glass again and laughs to himself.
"If I were a girl I'd swear you were trying to get me drunk. Oh wait, I was drunk before you showed up."
Mongrel lightly puts down his glass.
Mongrel: Pace yourself, Mister Cross. It would be a travesty if your were involved in some sort of incident that would prohibit your inclusion at Anniversary Armageddon 2015.
Alex motions for four more.
"Oh I'm not worried. I'd rather forget this night ever happened anyways."
Mongrel: Drinking away one's issues is never a healthy solution. But I am quite sure you know this already?
Alex shrugs.
"Better than most I'm afraid. Probably why I'm still on probation."
Mongrel: So be it.
The 6'11 Globalstar that is set to face Kolic at AA15 stands to his full height.
Mongrel: I don't mean to take up anymore of your time, Mister Cross. Sorry for the intrusion.
Alex nods as he raises another shot glass in the direction of Mongrel before downing it.
"No worries at all."
Mongrel makes his way back over to his table of teammates. The Hellcats looks at him curiously as he takes he seat back.
Piper: Well...what happen? What did he say?
Mongrel: Nothing. Nothing at all. But I have a thought that he won't last very long against Leon at Anniversary Armageddon 2015 if he continues on at the rate he is now.
