She’d left in a hurry, her jeans and hoodie combo looked mildly out of place with the drawn on whiskers and kitty ear headband. Her feet moved soundlessly through the hallways, her lips moving silently as she repeated the room number she was looking for to herself. The odd looks she received were met with a dark stare, a usual look on the face of the morbid young woman. Finding the right door she knocked, habit causing her to look around the hallway as she did.
Munin opened the door instantly her eyes still red from her earlier tears, and her face more pale than usual.
The moment she meets Eva's gaze her eyes begin to burn with tears again.
"Evie..."
She stepped out of the way so that the taller woman could stride in. She was completely unphased by her friend's unusual appearance.
The rooms were all the same really, so she didn’t really need directions to make her way to the kettle and begin brewing up. Tea didn’t fix the worlds problems, but it gave you a better shot at figuring out how to do it. Besides, it was a distraction, something to cloud her concerned expression.
“Talk to me nins, who do I need to kill?”
Instead of the typical slow trickle of information that Munin was want to give everything seemed to pour out of her at once.
"He didn't sleep with her, I thought that he had moved on, and I started to move on..."
She sat down heavily on the bed, brushing her hair out of her face with a shaky hand.
"I spent the day with Jericho Eva, and I was so happy..."
She looked back up to Eva's worried face, and hated to know that she put that worry there. Who else could she possibly trust to talk to about this though. No one...
"We decided to start seeing each other and we kissed."
“And you’re now feeling guilty? Why does it matter if he’s moved on or not?”
Tears managed to escape the corners of her eyes, and quietly silently made burning trails down her cheeks.
"It doesn't change anything, or does it? Am I supposed to call him?"
Moving over to the younger woman Eva rested a hand on her shoulder.
“Ninny...your first answer is usually the one you really believe, you know this doesn't change anything. Now has he called you?"
Munin shook her head, she knew that Eva was right, and she knew she shouldn't call him. But sometimes it helps to have another's reasonable voice to help support your own.
"Then you have no obligation whatsoever to talk to that...man, and I know that you know this. You are doing nothing wrong, so why the tears sweetheart?”
"I think it's because even though I know that this doesn't change the big problems, part of me wishes it did. He hasn't changed though, in fact he doesn't even see why he should change. I don't see him coming to terms with that any time in the near future, and I have started to move on. All the things that we were or could have been are gone."
"What did he think would happen when he spent the night with her?"
“He didn't think, that's part of his damn problem...a small part of a much bigger problem. Besides that everything you just said is true, and its perfectly natural to mourn a relationship when its over……but it’s important that you don’t give in to that entirely. It’s a downward spiral, one that burning all the possessions he left with you and getting horribly drunk can’t even fix. The man is not the same person he once was....Would the old Alex have held you to the wall by the throat?"
Munin shook her head adamantly in denial.
"No, he would have put me in a hold and talked to me, or walked away...."
"That was the answer to all your questions right there wasn't it? Those answers were the whole point of you lashing out in the first place....You do have something positive though Ninny. Don’t let what could have been ruin what you have right now.”
"I'm not, it may sound selfish, but I'm happy Eva. I haven't been this happy in months if I'm to be honest, and in some ways its different. Jericho is different..."
“It’s not selfish at all. He’s a great guy, just don’t tell him I said that.”
Munin chuckled slightly at that, and was relieved to feel the pressure in her chest slowly releasing.
"I won't, but you're right he is a great guy.... Even though we've known each other for years we are going to take things slow. All things considered we want to make sure we do this right."
Watching at least some of the sparkle come back to her friend, Eva offered her a reassuring smile.
“That’s a good idea. Its too easy to rush into these things and cock them up. Whatever happens from here on out Nin’s don’t let Alex bother you. Whatever he says or does, he’s an insignificant bump in a road nobody needs to go down. Let him rant and rage and spit his dummy out if that’s what he wants. You and Trav are the only things that matter now. Whatever you have with Jerry can build on that.”
She nodded her head silently, and let out sigh of relief.
"Thank you Eva..."
Munin opened the door instantly her eyes still red from her earlier tears, and her face more pale than usual.
