Shortly over a month ago, the GZW world was shocked when, out of the blue, a promotional commercial for Aftermath aired featuring Sweet Cheapshots. No one was quite sure what the appearance meant at the time, and Cheapshots has not been featured on GZW TV since. Unsurprisingly, as all things goes with The Cheap 1, there was a lot of controversy. What follows, thanks to ruthless research by a few good men, is a timeline depicting the events leading up until this moment.
November 30th – It is unclear as to which side contacted who first (both deny initial contact and still deny it as of this writing) but a verbal agreement is made via telephone that would see Cheapshots and his associates shoot a series of ads for the upcoming A2K7 pay per view on December 31st.
December 2nd – Cheapshots arrives at a secret location with Bad News Williams to film the first commercial. The idea for the shoot had already been agreed upon and both GZW staff and Cheapshots/Bad News reportedly had a blast filming. One crew member said “We were very hesitant going into this as we had heard stories of how difficult Cheapshots is to work with. However, he came in and did his job professionally, but kept things very lively between takes telling stories and cracking jokes.”
December 4th – Cheapshots sits in on the final editing process and praises the work of his collaborators. Shortly after editing is finished The Cheap 1 sits down and discusses various ideas for the next commercial with a couple GZW executives. It is said that several ideas were presented and sketched into rough drafts with one idea being green lit immediately. In fact, crew started production on the set the very next day.
December 5th – The first Aftermath promo featuring Cheapshots and Bad News airs. It wasn'r anything of great substance, but people were beginning to talk again with the sudden and unexpected reappearance of Sweet Cheapshots.
December 10th – Production on the set has been completed and everything is set up to film. Cheapshots and Bad News will once again star according to the script. We also learned that the commercial would have actually been cross-promoting the new Playbox720, the Ground Zero Global video game, as well as A2K7 itself. The content of the shoot would see Cheapshots and Bad News playing the new game, talking about the greatness of the new system and exchanging suitable PG-13 banter between them. At one point in the commercial, Cheapshots would be playing “Lord” Leon Taylor while Bad News would be playing Sean “Magic” Fiery and both men would edit their characters names, much to their amusement. Word from the set said the final video game battle took place between “Drama Queen” Leon Taylor and Sean “Magic” Fairy and ended with Cheapshots character getting the win via him unplugging Bad News’ controller. This particular advertisement is set to begin airing on December 20th.
December 13th – Another production meeting ensues in which Cheapshots and GZW execs come to an agreement upon the next idea for the shoot. This one was to actually feature the controversial character “Jesus” who Cheapshots claims is the real deal. Sadly, we don’t know the specifics of the shoot, but filming was set to being on December 17th.
December 17th – Before filming began it is reported that Cheapshots was having a discussion with a man who he thought was a GZW executive overseeing the shoot. The man, who has now been identified as one of the many assistants to Seth Richards, asked Cheapshots if he had worked off the ring rust for his return to the ring after Aftermath. Confused, Cheapshots asked the assistant what he was talking about and he was then informed that he was penciled in to make a return to the ring. This set Cheapshots off in a rage which saw him confront all the GZW executives on hand who swore they had no idea what he was talking about. The Cheap 1 then told them to tell Seth Richards to clear his schedule because he was on his way to settle this face to face. Production was immediately shut down and Seth Richards was informed of what was coming his way.
December 18th – Cheapshots and Bad News arrives in Atlanta at GZW2K1 Towers and a meeting is quickly set up. Within a matter of moments, Bad News is asked to leave the meeting for unspecific reasons while Cheapshots and Seth Richards discuss business. Details of the meeting are not clear, but what we do know is this. The assistant who spoke to Cheapshots was clearly misinformed and in fact confused by something he apparently overheard in a private board meeting. Seth Richards apologized for the incident and asked Cheapshots to please finish his obligation with the company. The word obligation apparently struck Cheapshots wrong as a rather loud argument was overheard between the two men that lasted nearly 30 minutes and ended with Cheapshots quitting and walking out in the middle of Seth Richards yelling at him. To make matters worse, Bad News, bored sitting outside of the meeting, promptly scared Seth Richard’s secretary from her position and started answering the phone. It was sometime in the midst of the argument between Cheapshots and Richards that Bad News received a call from the people behind the Playbox720. They wanted an update on the commercial and a workprint copy sent to their email. Bad News, mistaking their accent for Chinese, tried to order food from them to be delivered to the GZW2K1 Towers. Insulted by this, they demanded to speak immediately to Seth Richards to which Bad News replied with a mountain of obscenities and racial slurs against the Chinese. The Playbox720 representatives hung up and Bad News then decided to call a real Chinese food place for delivery.
December 22nd - December 28th – Cheapshots beings to receive phone calls from GZW2K1 Towers every half hour. All calls go directly to voice mail stating he doesn’t take calls from “clown shoes.” Cheapshots would also board a private jet hired to take him, Bad News and several other wealthy business men to New Zealand where they would celebrate New Years with a wild party, fly to Honolulu and celebrate New Years again some 23 hours later.
December 31st/January 1st – An incident happens in New Zealand shortly after midnight that sees Cheapshots and Bad News banned from the country for life. It has been rumoured that Bad News inadvertently destroyed the scared Tomb of the Unknown Warrior that is not only a national treasure, but a symbol of New Zealand pride. It is also rumoured that video footage of this incident exists.
January 3rd – Cheapshots arrives home to find legal documents from GZW. The Cheap 1 finds out he is being sued by GZW for them losing marketing rights with Playbox720, who now refuse to do business with GZW over the incident with Bad News. The loss of revenue is said to be well into the multimillions. Between the cost of the GZW lawsuit and the New Zealand incident, Cheapshots decides he had better make amends with the people of Playbox720 and GZW as New Zealand is a lost cause. The Cheap 1 finally returns the call to Seth Richards and tells him he will pull some strings and meet with Playbox720 representatives and ensures him he will get their business back. Seth Richards, undaunted, informs Cheapshots he will also have to find a way to work out the remainder of the contract he signed with GZW for the A2K7 promotional shoots. Cheapshots reluctantly agrees and suggests that he takes a film crew along for the ride to Japan. After careful consideration, Seth Richards agrees and books a low budget crew consisting of only three men to cover the trip from start to finish.
January 4th- The Cheap 1 places a call to an unknown person who evidently has great ties with various Japanese business men. Due to his connection, a meeting is granted between him, Bad News and the entire Playbox720 board. The meeting is scheduled to take place on January 9th.
January 5th – Cheapshots books one first class ticket to Tokyo, Japan. Bad News, however, is banned from all commercial flights in and out of the United States, so it remains to be seen how he will get there.
As you can see, controversy always seems to surround Cheapshots and we are sure that his trip to Japan will be no different. It is unknown at the present time how GZW plans to use this footage, but we will keep you updated as the story progresses.
