Name: Nocturne
Real name: Unknown
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 225 lbs.
Hometown: The Dreaming
Theme Song: The Cure - "Lullaby"
Alignment: Tweener
Catch Phrases: "Sleep, and dream of defeat."
"When night falls, Nocturne reigns."
Appearance: Always wears his mask, which is blue background with a silver moon and stars on the face. Other clothing generally consists of a simple blue bodysuit with silver boots. Occasionally wears a nondescript blue cape to the ring.
Match Entrance: "Lullaby" begins to play over the P.A. as the lights dim. Blue lights slowly rise, giving the impression of moonlight in the arena. Fog rolls in at the entrance as Nocturne steps out. He gazes upward for a moment before walking to the ring. He doesn't acknowledge anyone on his way, but stares directly ahead. He walks up the steps and enters the ring, waiting quietly in his corner for the match to begin.
Not much is known about the mysterious figure named Nocturne. He claims to be "ageless, faceless, and timeless." He is never seen without his moon and stars mask. When asked what his goals are in the world of professional wrestling, he remains cryptic: "I come to spread the message of the Eternal Dreamer, whose hand touches all who live in the Universe." Needless to say, many people consider him a bit crazy.
Nocturne has never been one to "choose a side," instead preferring to walk his own path in the world of professional wrestling. He seems to have his own agenda, though exactly what that is remains anybody's guess. Some say he is an aspiring cult leader, seeking to convert susceptible souls for his own gain. Still others believe him to be in need of serious psychiatric help, as he seems to actually believe the things he says about himself. Still others think he's nothing more than an eccentric prankster, drawing attention to himself with the most bizarre methods available.
Regardless of his identity, Nocturne is a highly talented wrestler who is more than capable of defeating anyone he is paired up against. He prefers a low-key, technical approach, very rarely taking risks in the ring, and has never been known to use weapons of any sort. He seeks to control the pace of the match by using lots of ground maneuvers. He is very much able to wrestle a faster-paced match, even possessing some impressive aerial skills, but chooses not to whenever possible. Nocturne is, if nothing else, methodical. His only goal in a match seems to be working toward victory, almost always with the Lethe Lock, a painful variation of the triangle choke. To date, no one has ever escaped this dreaded move, and he has actually defeated much larger men with it.
He has never been known to be intimidated by anyone, though that could be because he rarely expresses any real emotion at all. He is the very picture of seriousness at all times. While this turns many people off, it also gives him much respect from others. There is no one quite like Nocturne in the pro wrestling world, and he uses that to his advantage whenever possible.
Finisher: Lethe Lock - Nocturne locks his opponent in a triangle choke, then shifts so that he's in a kneeling position on top of them, their trapped arm facing up, applying extra pressure to the carotid artery and the neck. Named after the river of forgetfulness from Greek mythology.
Secondary Finisher: Hypnos' Embrace - This is a simple cobra clutch, but instead of being put on his opponent while standing, Nocturne locks it on while they're in the sitting position. He then extends his body straight out behind his opponent, so that he's almost laying face-down on the mat, increasing the pressure of this devastating hold.
Set-up Moves:
Bedtime Story - A sleeper drop, this is the first move in the sequence leading up to Nocturne's finisher.
Sominex Drop - A basic "rocker dropper" or "fame-asser" as it is sometimes called. This move is usually the second step toward his finisher.
Other moves: Nocturne generally employs a lot of ground maneuvers and "rest holds." Headlocks, armbars, and other basic moves form the foundation of his favored repertoire. He also has several different kicks, indicating a slight martial arts influence. When necessary, he is able to take to the air with dropkicks, moonsaults, flying elbows, and other moves from the top rope. Again, he will rarely use these moves, only resorting to them when absolutely necessary.
Other in-ring style notes: Nocturne never pursues a running opponent, preferring instead to wait in the ring and force them to come to him. While not much of a cheater, he will take whatever advantage he can. Nocturne is quick to capitalize on an opponent's mistake if he's able to. He's not above kicking an opponent as they enter the ring, or go for a surprise roll-up pin if he's in a position to do so. He is rarely disoriented and always seems to know where he is in the ring. If he's locked in a hold and unable to counter it, he will go for the ropes. The only time he will flee an opponent is if they have a weapon or if he is outnumbered. Then he simply seeks to avoid them until the situation is brought under control by the official. Nocturne is always respectful of the referee, breaking holds when ordered to and generally trying to keep them out of harm's way. He is not a vengeful man, and does not deliberately try to cause extreme harm to his opponent. He considers himself a wrestler, not a fighter. When an opponent tries to trash talk, Nocturne doesn't respond verbally, but instead stares at them, waiting for an opportunity to make a move.
Weaknesses: Nocturne is out of his element in a hardcore environment, and often seems a little tense and hesitant in such cases. A clever opponent can use this to his or her advantage. Also, Nocturne's slow and steady style doesn't always endear him to the more bloodthirsty modern wrestling fans. Also, the style of his mask sometimes inhibits his peripheral vision, so stick-and-move tactics can occasionally be effective against him when he's worn down and less alert.
Strengths: His calm appearance often throws his opponents off-guard, as they cannot tell what condition he is in. His mask obviously helps with that as well. His methodical approach to grappling sometimes frustrates more excitable opponents when they are unable to dictate the pace of the match. He doesn't get in a hurry, and in fact wrestles as if he has all the time in the world. His condition is exemplary, and his stamina is above average, allowing him to wrestle for nearly any length of time. He also has uncanny reversal talents, and can counter most moves fairly easily.
