OFFICIAL LIVE TNA "TURNING POINT" PAY-PER-VIEW RESULTS
Sunday, December 10, 2006 – Orlando, FL
By: Marcus Cygy
The TNA “Turning Point” preshow contest featured Ron “The Truth” Killings and Lance Hoyt defeating The Serotonin. Frankie Kazarian took the Axe Kick for the loss, and after the match we saw Maverick Matt and Johnny Devine grab Kazarian’s head by the hair as they hauled him to the back.
The Serotonin would later return with Kazarian having to pay penance. In a bizarre situation, Raven had Devine attached by the neck with a leash. And just as Devine suffered last month, it was Kazarian taking multiple kendo stick shots to the back. It’s almost as if Raven feels that there is success through pain and suffering.
Also on the preshow we saw James Mitchell interviewed backstage with Jeremy Borash. And while speaking, in the background was “The Monster” Abyss, the NWA World Heavyweight Champion who seemed to take a turn in mindset. While Mitchell was discussing his opponents of Sting and Christian Cage tonight, Abyss turned his back on Mitchell and realized that Sting’s words could possibly be the bearer of truth. He may not be just a monster after all; he may not be just a puppet of Mitchell’s. However, the now irate Mitchell grabbed Abyss by the hair and took him aside for a lecture on just who his master is, and who controls his soul.
And now it was now time for the promising raucous warriors of TNA to deliver another December to remember as they square off in TNA “Turning Point,” the annual year-end spectacular in Orlando, Florida, and we went straight to in-ring action!
The self-proclaimed X-Division legend and coordinator of the Paparazzi Championship Series, Kevin Nash joined Mike Tenay and Don West at the commentary booth to call the action for the Elimination Match. It featured Senshi, Jay Lethal, Alex Shelley, Sonjay Dutt, and the man from TV land – Austin Starr!
The opening minutes of the bout saw Jay Lethal going one on one with Alex Shelley. Kevin Nash announced that the PCS will feature a points system with the winner tonight gaining 5 points, and then 4, 3, 2, 1 – depending on the order of elimination tonight.
Tension between Alex Shelley and Austin Starr was very apparent early one with blind tags into the match, and misconception during strategic moves agreed on. Kevin Nash seemed to brush it off and continue to hype Austin Starr as the next big star. In fact, Nash’s homeboy Alex Shelley would gain only 1 point when Austin Starr sold him out in assisting Sonjay Dutt for the submission move he had locked in. Getting at least 1 point was good enough for Nash.
Senshi then eliminated Jay Lethal, as he leaves with 2 points. Senshi would continue his assault now on Sonjay Dutt with some stiff lethal kicks to his chest. He would finally be eliminated when Austin Starr went for the series of a brainbuster to the 450 splash – Sonjay Dutt leaves with 3 points.
In the finals, it was Alex Shelley costing Austin Starr the win with a momentary distraction from delivering another 450 splash. Senshi earned his 5 points via pinfall, as an irritated Austin Starr got 4 points. Nonetheless, Kevin Nash didn’t have much to say except for the fact that these two have been countering each other’s actions for the past few months now.
It was now time for the first ever Intergender Bikini Contest featuring Ms. Brooks along with Robert Roode against “Showtime” Eric Young. In making his way to the ring, Eric seemed really reluctant, but much to the fans’ credit they managed to convince Eric in sticking with his commitment on participating in this contest.
After seeing the assets of both Ms. Brooks and Eric Young, it was now time for the fans to decide who the winner was. It turned out to be none other than Eric Young who first showcased a bikini t-shirt, then some SpongeBob SquarePants boxers, and last but not least a Speedo!
Robert Roode then reiterated on the microphone how sick and tired he is of Ms. Brooks failing him time after time. Brooks was really sorry for the whole situation and told Roode that she can make it up to him. So Roode said that her next mission is to force Eric Young one way or another to sign a contract with Robert Roode, Inc. because he ultimately wants to loveable charm he gets from the fans to rub off on him.
Backstage, behind closed doors in the “Dumb To The Xtreme” locker room were supposedly Michael Hickenbottom and Paul Levesque. Before we would meet them though, we were brought to ringside for the X-Division Championship Match contested with the champion Christopher Daniels against Chris Sabin, with Jerry Lynn as the special guest referee!
The champion Christopher Daniels started off with some trouble early on with Chris Sabin using some underhand tactics such as latching onto his ears. Jerry Lynn, the special referee in charge had promised that he was going to call this match right down the middle, despite Chris Sabin being a former student of his.
The match would take its turns several times between these two physically gifted athletes. They were able to counter and subside each other multiple times. And whenever Sabin would gain any momentum, his cockiness would sure shine with a repeated smirk he gave.
The fans in Orlando were definitely behind The Fallen Angel, who gave up his own body in the later parts of the match with an elbow drop from the top rope to Sabin on the unprotected concrete outside the ring. Daniels would then successfully retain his X-Division Championship after an open palm thrust to Sabin followed with the BME.
After the match, Chris Sabin was whining and moaning over his loss, but Jerry Lynn told him to show some dignity and shake Sabin’s hand like a man. Christopher Daniels didn’t even want to take part in this so Jerry Lynn smacked him square across the face, and that left both Daniels and Sabin upset with Lynn, who was yelling, “You will respect me.” Christopher Daniels tried running after Lynn, but a group of TNA officials were there to stop him from performing any actions he could later regret.
