Sources from within MTV are confirming the network has cancelled Wrestling Society X "effective immediately". It is unclear at this time whether MTV will ever air the remaining six taped WSX episodes.
After a strong start for the show, the ratings took a sharp dive. MTV took a chance with Wrestling Society X and it was understood from the beginning that the show would have to perform strongly to stay on the air.
Last week's show did not air during its regularly scheduled timeslot for unknown reasons. WSX wsa also in the doghouse over the episode which never aired due to inappropriate content - a fireball that was deemed too easy to duplicate by viewers. The show had a lot working against it and was apparently more trouble to MTV than it was worth.
The Big Vision Entertainment company that produced the show retains the rights to Wrestling Society X - whether it be on DVD or shopped around to other media outlets.

That sucks. Even though it was only 30 minutes long, it was pretty decent. Maybe I'm just saying that because it's not WWE...

they did have the WSXtra thing that you could have viewed matches online...also I think most of the shows are already on YouTube...I personally think they have a very good shot at DVD sells...

The internet makes everything possible, Marky. You should know this by now. Never watched a single episode of this. I could never get myself to tune into MTV to even bother. Hopefully it gets picked up by another station, though. MTV is just too much of a parental channel that it's not even worth it. TNT or TBS should pick it up, considering its rival channels have wrestling. Turner might not wanna go for that again, though.

I'm highly disappointed. Finally there was a wrestling show that I felt like watching, and they go and yank it. I hate MTV anyway...this doesn't help their rep with me.

BIG VISION CEO RELEASES STATEMENT ABOUT WRESTLING SOCIETY X'S FUTURE by Mike Johnson @ 12:54:00 AM on 3/3/2007 Big Vision Entertainment's Houston Curtis issued the following statement to PWInsider.com early Saturday morning in regard to Wrestling Society X. The series has been pulled from MTV, as previously reported by PWInsider.com, but Curtis' statement gives the impression that WSX may find a home elsewhere within the MTV Networks: First, I want to thank all of the wrestling fans and press for their support, not only over the past few, confusing, days, but since the debut of WSX on MTV. Earlier today we spoke with executives at MTV and can now share with you the following. MTV is making no statement in regards to canceling Wrestling Society X. However, WSX will be pulled off the Tuesday night lineup in order to strategize the best way to bring the show back to the network and to the fans. Although the show has not been performing as well as the network had hoped in the Tuesday night lineup, we have been told that other MTV departments including MTV 2, MTV Online, MTV Mobile, and MTV Video-On-Demand are 100% behind Wrestling Society X. Additionally, the Creative and Development executives at MTV have commended us on the production of the show and are saddened by the lack of response due to scheduling mishaps and under-promotion. Until details are released regarding when the next NEW episode of WSX will air, all four previous episodes will be available on www.WSX.MTV.COM along with their WSXtra counterparts. Furthermore, fans with MTV Video-On-Demand can watch both the regular episodes and WSXtras on their TVs. From all of us here at Big Vision Entertainment, we thank you for your continuing support and look forward to bringing you more of the evolution of sports entertainment shortly! Sincerely, Houston Curtis CEO Big Vision Entertainment

MTV DOES AN ABOUT FACE AGAIN: WRESTLING SOCIETY X BACK ON NEXT WEEK by Mike Johnson @ 11:55:00 PM on 3/5/2007
We should have more details tomorrow here on PWInsider.com, but we've just received word from an MTV source that Wrestling Society X is going to return next Tuesday with the network airing one, possibly two episodes. I have no idea whether this is some sort of reprieve for the series or if MTV is simply making use of the episodes since they are paid for and edited.
We should have more details tomorrow, including a timeslot. At this point and time, your guess is as good as mine as to the future of the series. I'm starting to wonder if whoever is at the helm of MTV ran Monday Nitro the last few years of it's existence because there is certainly no rhyme or reason to any of this.
