According to the Associated Press, "The personal doctor [Dr. Phil Astin III] for Chris Benoit... has repeatedly violated the bail conditions in a case in which he is charged with overprescribing medication to patients, a federal prosecutor said Friday." Also in the article, it is noted that "the government has obtained evidence that Benoit and his slain wife had been abusing painkillers that were prescribed by Astin before the June killings."
There's an article on Buff Bagwell in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution where he talks about his past drugs problems and more.
A blog on Wired.com says that NBC is considering using WWE programming in its prime time line-up. While not much to read, it basically says NBC, looking to fill time while the strike goes on, is considering letting WWE fill some prime-time space, alongside many USA shows. It includes a lovely YouTube hosted video of Al Snow. They don't seem as enthused about the prospect as us fans are.
JR has more blogs on his website. He does these things more than he use to on the WWE site. Not that it's a bad thing.
Lance Storm also has new content on his website, including an interesting look at his time in WCW.
According to PWInsider, "a lot of people backstage were wondering why Chavo Guerrero returned to action there instead of on Smackdown." Whether or not he's officially moved to the ECW roster, it seems he will at least be facing CM Punk at house shows (he's scheduled to fight Punk on 12/27 in New Jersey).
In other news gathered from PWInsider:
- WWE Diva Search winner Eve Torres is slated to report to Ohio Valley Wrestling after the holidays to start training, as will new signee Plazma (real name Greg Marasciulo, from Mt. Sinai, NY, and a regular performer for New York Wrestling Connection on Long Island).
- WWE is looking for a Chinese commentator who speaks Mandarin and English, aged 20-50, male or female. The auditions end by 2/1.
- In an interview on KDSK 5 St. Louis to promote Tribute to the Troops, Randy Orton revealed that he and his wife are expecting their first child.
- Montel Vontavious Porter was recently on BET's "Rap City" to promote the Smackdown vs. RAW 2008 video game.
- Tammy "Sunny" Sytch had posted harsh comments about Rena "Sable" Mero on her MySpace, but they've been taken down. Needless to say, she's not a fan.
- The next TNA tapings are 1/7, 1/8, 1/21, and 1/22.
- TNA will have a one-hour special on 1/17 called "TNA Wrestling: Global Impact" which will air following Impact at 11pm ET. This will feature the matches we've reported on from Japan, and will replay Friday 1/18 at 9pm ET and Saturday, 1/19 at 2pm ET.
- TNA stars are featured on the covers of the latest Fighting Spirit (Booker) and Inside Wrestling (knockouts) magazines.
- TNA is reportedly in negotiations with MMA star Bob Sapp... again.
- Forbes.com listed TNA Women's Champion Gail Kim as one of the 40 most eligible bachelorettes in the country, representing the Tampa area.
- The Motor City Machinguns are scheduled to appear for ZERO-ONE Max in Tokyo, Japan on 1/1 at Korakuen Hall.
- TNA will hold a 2008 PPV in the Boston, MA area.
And in news gathered from the Wrestling Observer and PWInsider together (which is attributed to which is sadly lost in the editing):
- John Graziano, the passenger who was critically injured in the Nick Hogan car crash, has improved slightly as he has now opened his eyes and is semiconscious, according to the Tampa Channel 10 TV Station. However his mother has confirmed that he is still unable to breathe without a machine and has yet to speak.
- Tickets for the Royal Rumble go on sale on Saturday 29th December. Also on that date is the next Raw taping in Greensboro, NC, which will have the Triple H vs. Ric Flair match where Flairs career is on the line.
- Candice Michelle is apparently going to be doing a spread for the Playboy Cyber Club.
- While not exactly new news, Jake "The Snake" Roberts has recently entered a nine week rehabilitation program for numerous substance problems that he is trying to rid himself of, after taking up WWE's offer to help former stars with drug problems. Speaking to online wrestling game www.LegendsChampionshipWrestling.com, his former sister-in-law Nickla Roberts said "Jake needs prayers and support from all of us".
- Also, on the Jake Roberts front, Brandee, one of his daughters (and the one who appeared in "Beyond the Mat") has MS. Given her life at the moment, seems a bit shit.
- Speaking of former WWE stars, Luna Vachon retired from active competition last weekend after working for the "Blizzard Brawl" event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She will still be doing autograph signings and personal appearances.
- The poster for WWE's No Way Out PPV features Jeff Hardy. According to local press, the main event will be an Elimination Chamber match featuring Shawn Micheals, Jeff Hardy, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Ken Kennedy & Umaga.
- According to the Orlando Sentinel, Jerry Lynn said he asked for his release from TNA in August when he sat at home for two TV tapings without earning any income. "After a while, they started bringing in the ex-WCW and WWE guys," he said. "I guess they had nothing for me any more." "There's no room for advancement, and there's no sense staying under contract when you're not making any money."
- Teddy Hart had an interview with some fella who likes Hip-Hop, Sports, Wrestling AND Life. Which is good, I suppose. No point enjoying Pro Wrestling if you're dead.
- And Eric Bischoff has got his website all working and updated again.
