SPOILER RESULTS FROM ECW/SMACKDOWN TAPING
by Chris Karluk @ 12:21:52 AM on 12/31/2007
I just got back from the ECW and Smackdown tapings here in Richmond.
Dark Match: Nunzio versus "The Natural" Nick Nemeth with "Big Rob". Nick Nemeth is Nicky from the spirit squad; not sure who "Big Rob" was, but he looked like someone that needs to be checked under the wellness program. Nunzio won with a rollup in about 6 minutes.
Dark Match: Great Khali versus Tommy Dreamer. Khali won with the head vise.
ECW taping, with Tazz and Joey Styles as the announcers.
ECW opened with a video package of Chavo Guerrero's attack on C.M. Punk last week. After the package and the opening credits, Armando Estrada was in the ring. Chavo came out and said that he attacked Punk because he had to sit and watch Punk called "the future of the WWE" all the time he was out. Punk came out and got into it with Chavo, who eventually got around to talking about wanting a title shot. Estrada said that Chavo could have a shot if he beat his opponent later tonight, and that his opponent would be C.M. Punk.
The first match was John Morrison, the Miz, and Layla versus Jimmy Wang Yang, Shannon Moore, and Kelly Kelly. Yang pinned Miz after a moonsault.
Tazz interviewed Colin Delaney in the ring, who said that his resolution for 2008 is to become a WWE superstar. Tazz the announced Delaney's opponent, Big Daddy V. V won quickly after an elbow drop.
The next match was Shelton Benjamin versus James Curtis - Shelton pinned Curtis after his new inverted bulldog finisher.
The main event was C.M. Punk versus Chavo. The end came as Punk and Chavo were brawling on the floor when Punk got back in the ring just beating the referee's 10 count, defeating Chavo by countout.
Smackdown opened with Vickie Guerrero welcoming us to the first Smackdown of 2008, and announcing a "Beat the Clock" challenge for tonight with the winner getting a title shot at the Royal Rumble. She then introduced the new Smackdown color commentator, the Coach. Looks like Coach is done being Regal's assistant on Raw.
The first match was a "Beat the Clock" match between Finlay (with Hornswoggle) and MVP. MVP didn't get any of his usual entrance, not even the pyro. Finlay pinned MVP in 9:16 after hitting him with the shillelagh. Vince came out to celebrate with Hornswoggle, but blew off Finlay.
The next match was Chuck Palumbo and Michelle McCool versus Kenny and Victoria. Victoria pinned Michelle with a Widow's Peak. After the match, Chuck yelled at Michelle about losing the match and left the ring on his motorcycle leaving Michelle behind.
The next match was Chavo Guerrero versus Funaki in a "Beat the Clock" qualifier. Chavo pinned Funaki with the Gory Bomb in 6:02, putting him in the lead.
The next match was announced as Batista versus Curt Hawkins (one of the Edgeheads) in a "Beat the Clock" match. However, Vickie came out and announced that the match was a handicap match with Batista facing both Edgeheads. Batista failed to win the match in time, leaving Chavo in the lead. The Edgeheads retreated to the back after the buzzer went off.
After that, Deuce and Domino faced off against Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore. Moore pinned Domino.
The next match was announced as Undertaker versus Matt Striker in a "Beat the Clock" match. Striker came out in a referee's shirt, and announced that Vickie Guerrero had actually made him a guest referee, and that Taker's opponent was actually Mark Henry. Taker his Henry with a chokeslam with about 10 seconds left. Even though Henry's shoulder were down, Striker counted a two and three-quarters count, but refused to count three. He then fled the ring as the clock ran out. Interviewed in the back, he said that if Undertaker wanted to get his hands on him, he'd have to go through Big Daddy V.
The final match was Rey Mysterio's "Beat the Clock" match, which was against Edge (with Edgeheads). Batista came out and destroyed the Edgeheads shortly into the match, then Undertaker came out and stood at the entranceway. The lights went out, and when they came back up Edge was laying on the ropes in position for Rey to hit the 619 and win the match with 1:12 remaining, giving Rey the title shot at the Royal Rumble.
The dark match main event was Edge versus Batista for the World title. The macth ended when Edge got DQ'd for a low blow. Edge and the Edgeheads were in the ring when the lights went out, and when they came back on Undertaker was in the ring with Batista, and they both destroyed the Edgeheads.
