from Wrestling Should be Good . Com's THE HYPE! Blog.
ITEM! Shock and awe, folks, but Souji Shirakawa (Maggot) may actually have a decent bone in his body.
I know, I was stunned too.
The Native Gaijin was present at Glory's Enter Iron Man, though not the camera magnet that other GZG Talents in attendance were. After the match, Shirakawa came across Glory Champ Ryan "The Cat" Garfield holding court with fans. Garfield was just launching into one of his trademark misogynistic rants just as Kandi Fortune-Corbin and other members of the Glory board arrived for a meeting.
A friend of WSBG.com who was there states Maggot seemed to get more and more annoyed as Garfield rambled on, apparently oblivious to several pointed looks from the Phoenix. When the Cat mentioned Kandi by name, "Maggot suddenly spoke up, noted that Garfield certainly didn't speak for the rest of GZG, let alone Glory, and politely suggested Garfield take things to a less public venue."
Apparently, the Japanese custom of allowing one's supposed better to save face is alien to ol' Ry Bread and he didn't get the "shut up, bonehead" under Shirakawa's words, because as the crowd allowed the Cat to close on Shirakawa, Garfield launched into a long personal attack.
"He called [Maggot] an wanna be Japanese, an Otaku," (ignorant of the fact that Souji was born in Japan and raised in Tokyo despite being Caucasian, and I hear he's more into dorama than anmie) and started insulting Maggot's lover Nanami, calling her an "Asian Trophy Bimbo with fake tits." Shirakawa took it in stride, but when Fortune-Corbin spoke up at last, chiding Garfield and suggesting that was enough, things started to go downhill.
"I don't think Garfield relized it was Kandi," our source says. "At least, I hope not... because explaining why he said 'Yeah, whatever, creampie,' to the part owner of his league is going to be hard enough."
I leave it to you, dear reader, to hunt down what creampie means in this context.
At this point, Souji moved between Fortune-Corbin and Garfield and noted that "Mrs. Fortune-Corbin was just trying to save Garfield some grief". Garfield, rather than switching to damage control, began to belittle Shirakawa further, repeatedly insulting wrestling as a whole and Maggot in particular. Maggot simply stood there and silently took it.
"It was sort of weird, seeing the guy we usually see act like the biggest ass kay-fabe just stand there and take it," our source noted. "It was like Maggot had this dignity to him."
Unable to get a bigger rise out of the wrestler verbally, Garfield "started to shove him. It was the third time, when he almost shoved Shirakawa [into] a kid, that's when all of the sudden you've got [Keith "The Locksmith"] Lincoln getting between them to calm Ryan down and [John] "Jabber" Wocky helping Souji up."
We'll see what the fall out from this is, but one interesting item of note: The Grub apparently pulled a fast fade before the Phoenix could thank him. It seems Maggot may have acted, not for some hope of connection or personal gain, but simply out of respect... and I'd never thought I'd say that about Shirakawa-san.
