JUST BUSINESS
Occasional HotWire Editorial From Clancy Mc Clean
Welcome, simple wrestling fans, to "Just Business", the column that will teach you the ways of the world, the birds and the bees, the A to Z of wrestling, you name it, all in one easily marketable "fun-sized" portion. My name is Clancy Mc Clean, and, quite frankly, I have succeeded in everything I've ever done. Whether it was making my vast billions over the years from various business enterprises, acquiring various small wrestling federations over the years; UwU, DBW, IRWF… or leading many a tag team and singles competitor to championship gold as well. But enough about my legacy. So as not to overheat your poor brains, I'll ease you all in gently with something of a Preview for this upcoming Crimson, the first of the reopened GZW. A lot is riding on this event – new president Seth Richards will try to prove his worth, we will supposedly see the return of Zachary Sharp, and of course we have the first round of the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. So without further ado, let me delve into specifics…
"The Untouchable" Kaine vs. Adam Cage
We haven’t heard a heck of a lot from either of these guys, but this Kaine is looking really impressive. He's got puzzah, smazz, tukamonga… and he knows it. And Adam Cage, well it seems as if he's given up all that he built his career on. Quite frankly I'm not sure what to expect from this recently-turned babyface. If Kaine plays his cards right, and the newly "reborn" Adam Cage doesn't get his act together, this might be a major case of right-place-right-time syndrome for the confident upstart.
My Pick: "The Untouchable" Kaine
"The Dark Angel" Seven vs. "The Lone Gunman" John Taylor
There are a couple of ways to look at this one… Seven is a powerhouse, he's three hundred pounds and seven feet tall… But John Taylor is John Taylor. He's a seasoned veteran, he's got a tremendous ring presence and a mean streak matched only by Santiago DeTouwce. The buildup to this match has been interesting, it seems like these two have said just about everything there is to be said, they've made it very clear what they think of each other. But it would be foolish not to take what The Lone Gunman said about winning at any and all costs to heart seriously. This one'll be close, but I'm going to go with the experienced "Hitman".
My Pick: "The Lone Gunman" John Taylor
"Buzzing" Electric Sharpe vs. "The Real Deal" Jimmy Williams
Two former extreme legends in their respective federations, both obviously wanting to step it up a notch with the GZW World Heavyweight Championship in mind. The sadistic, unpredictable Electric Sharpe stands a very good chance against "The Real Deal", especially if Williams is more concerned with some unfinished business with "The First" Paul Spartan. Will The Spartan become involved in this encounter? Whatever happens, the newly signed Sharpe is going to give Jimmy Williams a run for his money. And there's always the question if these two hotheads can keep their extreme tendencies at bay for the duration of this matchup…
My Pick: "Buzzing" Electric Sharpe
Joshua Cleaver vs. "Career Killer" Maxx Pain
Maxx Pain is a former World Heavyweight Champion. That alone has got to make him something of a favourite to do well in this tournament. Put him up against a youngster with a sky-high opinion of himself and we may just have a whitewash on our hands. On paper, I just don't see that Cleaver has what it takes to win this one. There's always the runners-up TV Tournament, though…
My Pick: "Career Killer" Maxx Pain
"First Round Pick" Mychael Lord vs. James Tanner
Either of these guys could easily walk in and get the job done. Both are decorated superstars and fully capable competitors. Lord is a former HKWF Champion, but Tanner is more or less destined to be a World Heavyweight Champion at some point down the line. Normally I would say the young Tanner could easily come out on top of a match with someone like Lord, but this one isn't as simple. Tanner has already shown the GZW what he can do. Lord drops everything in HKWF, comes over here trying to make a household name for himself. I just don't see any way that he's going to stay down for a three count or tap out, he's got too much riding on this debut.
My Pick: "First Round Pick" Mychael Lord
Edwin MacPhisto vs. "The Berserker" Paul Phoenix
Two guys with completely contrasting styles going head to head; MacPhisto wrestles for the love of the sport, Phoenix does to hurt people. Initially I would say MacPhisto has no chance if he's going to continue down this fairplay route, especially a hothead like Phoenix. However, recent television has shown Phoenix may have something, namely a secret tape, on his mind. There is also the fact that Phoenix has said that winning the World Heavyweight Title is not his priority, he just wants to inflict pain on any and everyone put in front of him. If MacPhisto can capatalise on this, a huge upset may be in the works…
My Pick: Edwin MacPhisto
"Living Legend" Pimp Bizkit vs. To Be Announced
There are all sorts of rumours floating around as to who the opponent will be… I've heard everything from Little Show to Willie Haire to "Smooth Operator" Billy Bond. Are any of those true? Hardly, but I doubt it'll make much difference. With Deacon Kane, Sincere, Spartan and Monarch out of the way, Pimp is edging ever closer to the role of top heel in the company. He is definitely entering the tournament with the World Heavyweight Title in mind. I believe he'll step his game up a notch in this match, and he just may become unstoppable.
My Pick: "Living Legend" Pimp Bizkit
Nathaniel "Entertainment Franchise" Davis vs. To Be Announced
Nathaniel Davis is, well, Nathaniel Davis. The premier PeaceKeeper and defender on the GZW, crusader for the little guy, blah de blah. He's been here from day one and you can bet that he'll be around for quite a while yet. However, for all his troubles, he has never captured the GZW World Heavyweight Championship. At this moment in time, the role of top babyface in the company is seemingly up for grabs. Can Davis wise up and capture that role or will he sit around and let the impending return of Zac Sharp outshine his legacy?
My Pick: Nathaniel "Entertainment Franchise" Davis
Overall, the show has the potential to be a very successful start on the path to Return To Glory. You've got the above matches, as well as the potential surprise factor in Pimp and Davis' opponents… Not to mention a possible appearance from President Seth Richards, the return of former two-time World Champion Zachary Sharp, the in-ring return after a three year hiatus of John Taylor… You can bet that all involved will be trying 110% to impress those sitting in the command suite, which is a very good thing for the casual GZW viewer such as yourself.
Until next time, this has been Just Business with myself, "The Renaissance Man", Clancy Mc Clean. I don't do outroductions, so I'll leave that to your fickle imaginations.
