PRESS RELEASE: PLOW TO OPEN WRESTLING PROMOTION, SHOWCASE "HOMEGROWN TALENT"
Protecting the Lives of Wrestlers (PLOW) is pleased to announce the impending debut of Bayou Championship Wrestling (BCW), based out of the Vanderbilt Academy in Baton Rouge, LA. This will be the non-profit organization's first foray into the business side of the sport, and may lay the groundwork for similar promotions to open in other Academy cities in the future.
PLOW's mission is to promote physical, mental, and spiritual health for all professional wrestlers, while working behind the cameras to put pressure on wrestling promotions to treat the athletes with the dignity, respect, and courtesy their continued sacrifice warrants. BCW is the next phase in the organization's long-term plan to promote these ideals.
Initially, BCW will primarily focus on providing a venue and proving ground for recent graduates of the Vanderbilt Academies. However, in the future there are plans to bring in outside talent, established professionals who endorse and promote the philosophies which PLOW stands for.
No date has been set for the first event under the BCW banner, though it is expected to occur sometime in the first quarter of 2009. Marvin Handler, chairman of PLOW's board of directors, made the following statement:
Handler declined to confirm or deny any rumors concerning the enterprise. There has been internet speculation that the company will offer low-cost, comprehensive health insurance to all of its wrestlers, along with employing a full-time counseling staff. Another rumor concerns Clancy Beauregarde, former manager of Groundzero Wrestling 2K1 Globalstar Vernon Vanderbilt, possibly playing a role in the administration of the promotion.
Mr. Beauregarde could not be reached for comment at press time. Vernon Vanderbilt, founder of PLOW, said "this will be a glorious day for the wrestling business, when BCW opens its doors for the first show, and I intend to be in the front row."
PLOW's facility management group, Protection Assets, LLC, will be in charge of the promotion, as it is a for-profit venture. It is expected that profits will be donated to the PLOW General Fund, to be distributed among its many programs and services. PLOW currently offers such services as free/low-cost drug and alcohol counseling, medical examinations, and emergency financial assistance to wrestling professionals. They also run ten self-subsidized Vanderbilt Academy wrestling schools, with facilities on six continents.

"PLOW is very excited by the possibilities inherent in this venture. Bayou Championship Wrestling will be the first wrestling promotion specifically designed to meet the needs of the performers before the financial bottom line. Our goal is to foster the next generation of professional wrestling superstars, to help them learn and grow beyond the capabilities of the Academies, and to give them a public forum to display their amazing talents. We have a lot of kids all over the world with a ton of potential, a ton of heart, and PLOW firmly believes that they will make a massive impact on this sport and the business that has grown up around it over the last hundred years. BCW will set a new standard for wrestling promotions worldwide, and we firmly believe that our model will become standard in the industry in the years to come. The era of corporate greed is nearing its end, and it will be replaced by corporate responsibility."
