Mortal Remains
Height: 6’1 (although competes horizontally, i.e. lying down – dead)
Weight: 240lbs
Theme Music: “Dirt in the Ground” by Tom Waits
Nicknames: The Dead Man, Nice Guy Deaddie, Dead Guy Eddie, The Dodo, The Corpse, The Dead Body, Lifeless Larry, The Dead One, Stone Cold, The Undertaken, Dyin’ Eyes, The Grim Harvester, The Rotten Fetid Corpse, The Silent Carcassasin, Crowbait, Wormfood
Taking the dark gimmick several steps (and/or miles) too far, Mortal Remains is a dead body. Well, in character he’s a dead body. Behind the scenes Mortal Remains is half actor, half enhancement talent. After a career as an extra in countless war movies (playing dead bodies of all shapes and sizes) he comes to GZW2K1 for a new lease of life. When not in the ring, Mortal Remains can be found backstage showcasing his infamously morbid sense of humour with deadpan delivery. As a result he’s very popular with the boys in the back. In-ring, what you see if what you get. After being wheeled out on a stretcher and/or dragged out in a body bag and placed firmly on the mat, this rotten corpse does what he does best – nothing whatsoever. The opponent can kick, claw, punch and tear at Mortal Remains but the dead body won’t move one dead muscle. Mortal Remains is basically a big, meaty punching bag.
Strengths:
Very stiff in-ring
As cold as ice
Very experienced, he has literally looked death in the face
Weaknesses:
Tends to get buried by bookers
Easily susceptible to dead-guy puns from announcers, onlookers etc.
Best days are behind him as he’s not actually alive, i.e. he’s dead
Finisher: Dead Air. This is a devastating and physically impossible manoeuvre. For some inexplicable reason the camera turns its focus away from Mortal Remains for about three minutes. When the shot returns, the corpse is no longer sprawled out along the mat but in fact sprawled out across the top rope! Mortal Remains’ opponent directly underneath him, the corpse simply falls off the turnbuckle and crushes his foe.
