With the outstanding performance of Ring of Honor Icon Sincere at this year's Brain Aas Memorial Show, there has been further talks of the Jade Dragon returning to active competition within GroundZero Wrestling 2K1. As many should know, Icon Sincere's profile is still on the official roster upon the GZW2K1 website after nearly two years of being inactive. Many believe that Icon Sincere will be back in a GZW2K1 ring as soon as Crimson "Better Than Our Best".
Contrary to popular belief Ring of Honor Icon James "Monarch" Corbin was not upset with his removal from the battle royale so early. Icon Corbin was more than pleased with his appearance and short stay in the match. He was quoted after the show saying, "I'm not the selfish prick everyone in the [expletive] Globalverse makes me out to be. This wasn't about me. This was about Brian and remembering all the great things he did for this sport."
The creative team were originally planning on a "Final Four Showdown" between Nathan Williams, Sean Fiery, Jacob Helmsley and Eva Corbin. Eva was scrapped at the last moment however, in favor of Shane Ryder. Many felt Ryder deserved to take the fourth spot in the grand finale based on a mixture of his recent form and long-standing loyalty to GZW2K1. By the same token, it has been rumored Eva has fallen out of favor with management due to her continued refusal to participate in the 2009 Lord of the Coliseum tournament.
One of the biggest talking-points coming out of the show was the announce team being heard to constantly refer to Ring of Honor Icon Jason Makavelli as "Fabu." As we all obviously know, the proper pronunciation of the moniker is "Fubu," many fans being left extremely confused by the slight name change for the Ring of Honor Icon, and flooding internet forums with their comments as a result. As it turns out, food giants "Fubu Candy" bought the rights to the name "Fubu" in March 2002, and GZG lawyers advised the creative team against booking Makavelli under a trademark which they no longer had the rights to. Rather than simply refer to the returning legend as "Jason Makavelli," the announcers were under strict instructions from creative to refer to Makavelli as "Fabu." Reasons for this are unknown, but it's certainly one of the more bizarre stories coming out of the night. Interesting to note is that "Fubu Candy" were in talks recently with GZG regarding a sponsorship deal. However, much like Fubu Candy's newest 'Apple Zingers' candy, the negotiations turned sour.
