TOPICAL HOTWIRE OPINION WITH CLANCY McCLEAN
Attention, halfwits!
As always, it is I, "Mr. Consistency" Clancy McClean bringing you another jam-packed edition of Just Business. This week, I'll be taking an in-depth, insider's look at this upcoming Tuesday Night Crimson, scheduled to air this Tuesday, the sixth of July. Again, the card is heavily based on the two simultaneously-running tournaments, each scheduled to conclude at the first Pay-Per-View event of the year, Fallout: Return To Glory. So what stands between now and that glorious event? This upcoming Crimson, you idiot. I already established that. But what is there to be, and of course not to be looking forward to in terms of this week's Crimson? I'll tell you all of that and more, as I get down to business. JUST BUSINESS, that is.
Before I dive right into the meat of the card, that being the matches obviously, let me give you a little bit of insider advice. The word through the grapevine is that a certain well-off, well-respected businessman will be there in Philly, complete with a very special announcement. Far too special for any of the attending crowd at last week's Throwdown show, that's for sure. For more on that, be sure to check out this week's Crimson or indeed pick up the basic concept of subtlety… Morons. Anyway, on to the matches…
"Wild Card" Eddie Knoxville Television Championship Memorial Tournament
Second Round
I.
"The Dark Angel" Seven vs. "The Untouchable" Kaine[/u]
What can be said? These two men are both coming off of losses to the "Lone Gunman", John Taylor… But they're both young. They're both hungry for both gold and attention. That being said, they are both polar opposites. It's your typical case of the flyer versus the brute. Going into this match, Kaine is giving up over a foot in height and over a hundred pounds in weight. Of course, he's the quicker, more agile of the two, and that could certainly fare well against the 7' giant. However, in my highly respected opinion, the advantage has to go in Seven's favour. Of course, he's got the size and strength advantage. That goes without saying, you plebeians. Even ignoring that, you've got to think about morale. Both starting off in the Heavyweight Tournament, they took two different routes. Kaine got off to a good start, defeating Adam Cage. Unfortunately, his luck stopped there, as he suffered a loss at the hands of John Taylor the following week. Seven got off to a poor start, losing to Taylor in Round 1… Since then, he's gotten back on track, coming into this match with two impressive, dominating wins over Adam Cage and K-9 in the last two weeks. In layman's terms, Seven is confident, and so he should be. Whatever Kaine says, his morale has got to be low coming straight off a loss, and that's the difference maker.
Clancy's Pick: "The Dark Angel" Seven[/i]
"Buzzing" Electric Sharpe vs. "Real Deal" Jimmy Williams
Round two, here we come… Their first meeting, for those who find it difficult to remember such things, was in the first round of the Heavyweight Championship tournament. As physical and close a contest as it was, it was the Real Deal that came out victorious and diminished Electric Sharpe's World Heavyweight Title aspirations for the foreseeable future. In many cases, they would have called it a day and gone there separate ways. However, this is not 'many cases'. Two weeks ago on Crimson, Jimmy was somehow beaten by Joshua Cleaver, eliminating the Real Deal from the tournament and setting up Sharpe/Williams Mk. II. I can hear your inaudible gasps already… Forget it. Things escalated last Monday Night on Throwdown when Sharpe attacked Williams and savaged him in the backstage area. Since then, a game of cat and mouse has been evident on GZW Television, with Jimmy, along with new business associate, Jonathan Vetter, hell bent on revenge. Retribution, perhaps? The bottom line in this case is that Jimmy is one of the toughest members of the GZW locker room, and he's mightily pissed off. Going on both the evidence from their last encounter, and the fact that Jimmy seems to have taken his game up a notch recently, I'm afraid to conclude that this may not be Pimp's boy Sharpe's day…
Clancy's Pick: "Real Deal" Jimmy Williams
II.
James Tanner vs. "The Berserker" Paul Phoenix
Who said something about an underachiever? Paul Phoenix, ex-UWA World Heavyweight Champion, a big name on the indy circuit… He was hyped to be one of the major players in the new GZW, he was on fire immediately after said restart. And then… And then what? Besides from arriving at the arena five minutes before his matches, losing said matches and heading home directly after said matches, the man has done absolutely nothing for the company. Until the man gets his act together, I've got nothing else to say about him. And as for James Tanner… Well, the less I have to say about him, the better. For one of just two former TV Champions remaining in the tournament, he hasn't had much to say for himself as of late. Going on statistics alone, I'd give this one to Tanner, but they've both got to sort themselves out, and sharpish.
Clancy's Pick: James Tanner
"Unbreakable Female" Tonya Glory vs. Nathaniel "Entertainment Franchise" Davis
Oh great. A feminist versus a dinosaur. Apart from setting up retirement matches and hassling busy commissioners, these two have done absolutely nothing to hype up this contest. By his own admission, Davis is on his way out. By her own self-promotion, Glory is on her way up. With Davis already booked to go one on one with James "Monarch" Corbin at Return To Glory, is there even any question as to who'll win this? Am I saying Davis is going down without a fight? Of course not. Am I saying Davis is going to lay down and let Glory get the win? Perhaps, with a but… What I'm really saying is that Nathaniel Davis, at 36 years of age, has no place in a tournament with young, hungry and deserving TV Title contenders. The fact that Davis chose to bow out for good after being eliminated from the World Heavyweight Championship tournament speaks volumes about his dedication. "GZW's Defender" my well-oiled backside…
Clancy's Pick: "Unbreakable Female" Tonya Glory
GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Championship Tournament
Third Round
I.
"Lone Gunman" John Taylor vs. Joshua "The Panther" Cleaver
I find it disappointing, to say the least, a slap in the face to the company to say slightly more, that we haven't heard from Cleaver, a man among the supposed "top four" in the company at the moment, in over a week. As much as I believe that mic skills are the gold plating of the key to a successful champion, they aren't everything. And fortunately, this match sees two of the company's most intriguing competitors going toe to toe. Taylor, as much as he may be the classic "Never-Has-Been", is one of the soundest technical wrestlers working in North America today. The Lone Gunman has been impressive thus far, whether you look at his cruise down easy street to get to where he is or his little war of words with Pimp Bizkit. We all know that the Gunman wants to be a main eventer, but trash-talking with Pimp is going to only end in tears for him. As for Cleaver… What can be said? He overcame Jimmy Williams… He believes that he's royalty… He finds his own promos boring. A bit wishy-washy if you ask me. Unorthodox Smhunorthodox, even I'll admit that the safe bet here is with the technically sound Gunman. The man may be scum, but he's consistent. Being "Mr. Consistency", I'd know…
Clancy's Pick: "Lone Gunman" John Taylor[/size]
