GroundZero Wrestling 2K1 is reportedly going through a lot of cost-cutting measures although nothing has been specifically said other than they are happening. Only one person has been let go at this point, house show ring announcer Marvin Pezer, and it wasn't cost-cutting as much as just him having heat and him claiming he was 'burnt out' as an apparent excuse.
What is known is that those close to GZW2K1 President Seth Richards recommended an extensive list of talent — 15 to 20 names — to be cut. Thus far, Richards has refused to cut those requested since she doesn't want talent who have been loyal to the organization to be unemployed in these uncertain economic times.
Nonetheless, the company has greatly increased its payroll since last year, and most business aspects are either the same or down, with the exception of a huge increase in merchandise sales at live events.
-- On June 4th, The Mongrel will throw out the first pitch at the Baysox Baseball game. He will also be there to sign autographs.
-- GZW2K1 is currently running a contest to see who can do the best Ring of Honor Icon "Smooth Operator" Billy Bond impersonation. The winner will get a trip to Fallout: Return to Manchester and also get the chance to meet Icon Bond.
-- A lot of people within GZW2K1 now regret cutting Eva Corbin loose last year, since the company is left with marginal depth on the main event babyface side. It's said that Corbin's behavior on was the deciding factor in letting her go. However, her release had been brewing as there was talk of cutting her prior to Lord of the Coliseum 2009 due to her behavior. Notably, Corbin had a few run-ins with Jericho "Raze" Cross with things becoming so heated that he threatened to quit if she wasn't fired. At one point, Bane had to step in to calm him down.
