Fuck off. Yes, I am. This is actually the worst news since Eddie died, for me. I have no interest in SD unless they give Christian a massive push. But I doubt it. I guess either next year or the year after... Edge will be the main attraction in the HoF. Depressing shit for me. Time to watch my Decade of Decadence DVD... :*(

Less than a week after his successful title defense against Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII, World Heavyweight Champion Edge has been forced to retire from in-ring competition due to injury. The unexpected news brings to an end a storied WWE career spanning 13 years and consisting of 11 World Title reigns.
The Rated-R Superstar had been suffering numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands. This is not the first time Edge has experienced these symptoms of nueropraxia. An MRI in Atlanta last Monday was sent to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and professor of neurosurgery at The Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After careful examination of the MRI, it was determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and thus, he is forced to retire.
In 2003, Edge underwent a two level spinal fusion of the discs between his C5, C6 and C7 vertebrae. After being cleared to compete, The Rated-R Superstar returned to the ring, resulting in stenosis of the spine, or a narrowing of the spinal column, above and below the fused discs. This narrowing resulted in less and less of the vital fluid needed to protect the spinal cord. Medical professionals cannot clear Edge to compete ever again in WWE since doing so could result in paralysis or even death.

After Raw went off the air, Randy Orton gave the RKO to Alex Riley. John Cena then gave the Attitude Adjustment to The Miz.
Both Cena and Orton paid their respects to Edge, who announced earlier in the show that he would never compete again due to a serious spinal condition. Cena referred to him by his real name, Adam Copeland. Cena recalled Edge winning the WWE Championship from him in the Elimination Chamber and that people thought he would never amount to more than a tag team champion.
Cena mentioned that when Edge said he was leaving due to medical reasons, he wasn't joking. Cena asked for one more send-off from the audience so Edge could hear them backstage.
Cena placed the microphone in the center of the ring and the crowd gave Edge a standing ovation. Both Cena and Orton left the ringside area to conclude the event.

Hulk Hogan - you know, the guy Edge said inspired him to become a wrestler - had this to say via Twitter about Edge retiring due to his neck injury:
"if any of the guys like me,Flair,Hardy,Andre,AA,Blanchard, orndoff,Henning would have listened to doctors we would have quit15yrsago"
"but I don't know Edges working environment because they are a media company not a wrestling company. HH wrestlers work hurt! What about Foley! I bet EDGE still wants to keep wrestling,he’s one of the boys big time!!! HH"

Hogan's a douchebag who just needs to go away. He had a great resurgence in the early part of the last decade thanks to WWE, but that was it.
It's not much of a side-argument on my part, but I don't remember Hogan, Andre or Flair ever taking some of the extreme risks Edge has taken in-ring. Curt Henning? If he had given up 15 years earlier then maybe he wouldn't have died from a mixture of steroids, painkillers and cocaine. The only people I can recall who have lasted so long at the top and who have taken more extreme bumps than Edge over the years have been Shane McMahon (who bumped once in a blue moon), Jeff Hardy (who is a fuck-up) and Mick Foley (who needed to find something to market himself by, as he sure wasn't an athlete). Oh, Chris Benoit took a lot of bumps to the head, too.
I just love how all of Hogan's examples are either dead, heavily immobile, or half-dead and making fools of themselves. What about Foley, Hulk?
Edge was far from my favourite wrestler (didn't dislike him, he just wasn't a must-see for me), but he's done well here to prevent an even bigger tragedy, and it is sad to see him go via injury.
Edit: Shawn Michaels also consistently took big bumps - slipped my mind.

Dear god I've found a new level of disgust for Hogan... I genuinely thought I couldn't find another one!
