Wild Journeys: The 2006 Plane Ride From Hell
This infamous incident took place on a chartered flight which took place as the GZW2K1 crew flew back to the United States after the poorly recieved 2006 Heatwave III PPV in Hong Kong. In wrestling circles it became known as the Plane Ride from Hell.
Let's take a look at what happened:
Now bearing in mind President Seth Richards was onboard to uphold the law, along with road agent Sweet Cheapshots, Commissioner Devotion Profit, Announcers Todd Crumb, Joshua Samson and Patrick Nelson, locker room leaders Nathan Williams and Nathaniel Davis, along with senior writers BDR and Mickey Greer... you'd think the crew would behave themselves right?!
WRONG!
Many of the guys were having a good time drinking onboard untill some got completely sloshed and things really got out of hand:
Maxx Pain got into a tiff with William Black, who had reportedly been in a grumpy mood the whole tour about not being used on any of the cards. It turned physical, and ever the bully, Maxx floored Black with a brutal punch, before stomping on him until it was broken up by other Globalstars, Black cowering on the deck in the foetus position.
But it didn't end there!
A couple of Globalstars decided to teach Black a lesson by removing his clothes and shaving off his pubic hair whilst he drunkenly slept. Not surprisingly, Leon Corbin did the honours with the electric razor. William Black awoke to discover his groin region was completely bald, with various degrading terms written on his penis in permanent ink, and went absolutely nuts!
Of course the lunacy didn't end there! Red Dragon was stumbling around in his gothic overcoat (with no pants underneath), and exposed himself to a female flight attendant. Chris Cairns serenaded his ex-fiancée Devotion Profit with gushy love songs over the PA system and Devotion most certainly was not amused! After ignoring her pleas to stop, she had to complain to Nathaniel Davis who finally persuaded the drunken Cairnsy to finish his awful musical number! Cairns then pissed all over the luggage compartment. A supposedly former alcoholic, his television time was significantly decreased following this incident as he wound-up in rehab at GZW2K1's expense.
Meanwhile Zander Frost and Diamond Sledge had been having fun spraying others with shaving cream... until the intoxicated Sledge passed out. Zander got into an argument with Wayne Hammon over their shooting skills which turned into a brawl, taking Bane and Jon Kellar to intervene, the group falling dangerously close to the plane door during the scuffle.
Despite the presence of senior GZW2K1 personnel onboard, many wrestlers totally lost control. Even Nathan Williams, the so-called locker room leader, the man who commands so much backstage respect, did virtually nothing to maintain order, spending much of the journey fast asleep.
Many were released, suspended or harshly fined as a consequence of this trip. GZW2K1 had a huge black eye on its reputation, Seth Richards quick to announce that GZW2K1 would no longer serve alcohol on overseas flights! This piece of bad press came during an especially difficult transitional year for GZW2K1, where they had lost big names such as Lord John Taylor, Pimp Bizkit, Monarch, Quake, Sean Fiery and a host of others to either injury or retirement. Morale was at an all-time low, which is seen to have been a major trigger in this wild and whacky snapshot of GZW2K1 on the road.
We'll be exposing more of GZW2K1's wildest moments in the upcoming 10th Anniversary of HotWire Magazine. Stay tuned - you won't believe your eyes!
