"The God of Pain" Bane (46) was in jovial spirits as he made a public appearance in Central London this past Friday in order to cut the ribbon at the grand opening of his first UK-based "Damn Good Sleep" superstore. Bane was especially generous with the amount of time he spent with his fans at the event, having his picture taken and signing autographs for nearly two hours.
Bane has been out of action since December's Aftermath2K10 event, where he won the 'Cash The Cheque Ladder Match' which would guarantee him a shot at the GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Championship at any time of his choosing. But Bane's career was dealt yet another setback, as on this night he once again sustained injury to his spinal column, which has been a constant source of concern throughout his career.
Bane spoke about his latest injury, as well as a plethora of other topics, with GrappleHard's Charles Gaygan.
Bane on Injury and Return Date
"Of course I'd love to say I'm going to return as soon as possible, but we just don't know. It's looking like November at the very earliest. I really hope to be back in time to have a place on the Aftermath2K11 card. I've missed so many of GZW2K1's big events over the years. I've missed so many Heatwaves and Aftermaths. I really hope to be back for Aftermath2K11 this year. Imagine if Bane were to cash his cheque exactly one year after he won it, and become GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Champion at GZW2K1's end of year spectacular. That would be a career defining moment, so Aftermath2K11 is when I'm aiming to make my return. We'll see."
Bane on Rumours of Lord John Taylor @ Heatwave VIII
"I know GZW2K1 are trying to get Gunman in as a special guest announcer for the Heatwave show. We all know charisma isn't exactly Taylor's strong point, so I'm not sure what the wisdom is there. I think it would be a horrible move. It would draw money, sure, but it would be car crash television to have someone like him on commentary for four hours. Plus I hear he refused because they weren't offering him enough money, which sounds just about right. Everybody knows our esteemed 2004 Lord of the Coliseum is a selfish leech. Management would be better off getting someone like Icon Lord Sean Fiery - a true great in this business - to do commentary, because at least he has charisma and enthusiasm. I've said it before and I'll say it again... If John Taylor is ever unfortunate enough to bump into me at some point down the line, I'll walk up to him, tell him to take the first shot, and then enlighten him as to what I'm all about."
Bane on Retirement
"It's no secret that I've been planning my retirement since almost as soon as I signed with GZW2K1 (for the second time). I got my big retirement tour in 2008 where I had a host of high profile matches, and was set to have my final match against Raide - a true pro, unlike some others I've already mentioned - at Heatwave. But then I got injured again. I think this was destiny, like fate was trying to stop me from retiring. So I will retire at some point before I hit fifty, but I want that GZW2K1 World Heavyweight Championship before I go.
For its first week of retail, London's "Damn Good Sleep" superstore has the exclusive offer of a free £30 voucher whenever you spend over £200 on any selected items.
