In a move viewed as 'straight out of left field' it would seem that seventeen-year-old teenage sensation Quarrie Naughton Caprice is set to jump ship as soon as his GZW2K1 contract expires on December 31st 2012. The son of legendary Globalstar Bane has reportedly already inked a lucrative multi-year contract with United Japan Wrestling.
Caprice - a graduate of the GZW2K1 Trouble Trax wrestling school - is said to have upset many within the industry with this unexpected move.
Whispers in the wind suggest Quarrie was heavily influenced by friends and family to 'escape' from GZW2K1 'as quickly as possible.' The belief within Quarrie's circle - which presumably includes his father, Bane, as well as onscreen mentor, Billy Diamond-Remarkable - is that Quarrie's talents would be wasted in the long-term if he were to remain loyal to GZW2K1's 'sinking ship.'
The general consensus may be that United Japan Wrestling would be a far better 'fit' for Quarrie and his particular in-ring style. It can also be assumed that Quarrie would be far more successful in the Japanese promotion than he would in GZW2K1.
The move comes as a significant blow to GZW2K1. The promotion's struggles at this time are well documented and the roster is already stretched alarmingly thin.
Far from being the leader of the pack (as was the case for much of the previous decade), GZW2K1 now finds itself vulnerable and struggling to evolve. Meanwhile, HKWF goes from strength to strength with its distinct balls to the wall 'anything goes' formula and UJW continues to build a credible niche product catered towards wrestling purists. GZW2K1, meanwhile, is seen as unfocused and uninspired, losing much of its core audience to GroundZero Global's very own GLORY MMA promotion.
Once the jewel in Logan Corzair's crown, many now believe GZW2K1 to be living on borrowed time. The numerous other 'moving parts' within the Corzair conglomerate continue to outdo what was once one of the edgiest products on global television, and as soon as Corzair realises just how far the product has fallen, many feel he won't hesitate to simply cut his losses and pull the plug.
