Character Information
Name: Sir Justinian
From: The Middle Ages
Height: 6' 6"
Weight: 250 lbs.
Alignment: Face
Character Description:
Faith in a divine order and plan for all things, a strong sense of justice and an eager and boisterous heart are all cornerstones of Sir Justinian. Rumoured to be an accidental time traveller from the middle ages (along with his squire and human property, Bartholomew the Last), Sir Justinian takes hierarchies, respect and loyalty very seriously, and is as fierce a friend and ally as he is a foe of the unjust and discourteous.
Character History and Biography:
MIST, PIZZA, WRESTLING
Title History:
Baron of The Lower Staufenwoods (Zähringen Schwarzwald Enclave)
Imperial Knight of the Holy Roman Empire
Sergeant in the Imperial Army
Character Appearance:
Sir Justinian is tall, and his muscle is spread fairly evenly around his frame except for his large, powerful shoulders and upper arms, where his favourite moves in-ring and in training focus muscle development on his naturally broad shoulders. He is youthful in energy and at heart, and he claims he has only two dozen summers behind him. His black hair is stylish but short, tidy and meticulously sculpted as he approaches the arena. His legs are long and sleekly muscled, runner's legs with just a bit more bulk on them. Outside the ring, he usually wears his full entrance attire (see below), sometimes minus the robe, and will sometimes wear his full suit of platemail when the event warrants it.
Character Entrance
Theme Music:
“Opening Fanfare” from Stephen Sondheim's The Frogs.
Ring Attire: Yellow singlet, black double-headed eagle on back, black German cross on front, black bands around thighs with a thin strip of yellow at the bottom of the hem of each leg. Fingerless dyed yellow leather gloves with silver knuckle studs and dyed black leather wristbands with gold buckles adorn his hands and wrists, and further up his arms are yellow elbow pads with black detailing of the same double-headed eagle and cross from his singlet. He also has a black knee brace on each leg, yellow boots with black crosses emblazoned on the shin guards and a gold cross necklace like the crosses on his outfit.
Entrance
The lights go out and a single spotlight hits the stage. Sir Justinian walks into it to the strains of the “Opening Fanfare” from The Frogs, and all the lights come up as Sir Justinian slowly brings his arms up and turns from side to side, nodding and smiling and taking in anything the crowd aims at him (if there are boos, he seems almost delusional in his reaction, as if there was an adoring crowd cheering even though there isn't). The screen shows Sir Justinian in full plate mail battling mythological creatures. Sir Justinian comes down the ramp, Bartholomew the Last in tow or not. He wears a fancy silk robe in the yellow and black of the Holy Roman Empire's flag and a golden circlet around his brow. His gloves and boots can be seen. As he enters the ring, he takes off his robe and removes his circlet (or his squire removes them for him), revealing his ring attire. He bows to the audience, bows to his opponent (or if he is the first one out, bows to his opponent once their ring entrance completes), and bows to the ref, then assumes a position of readiness, head held high.
Ring Style:
Showman
A consummate gentleman and a consummate showman, Sir Justinian plays by the rules and perfects his technique, wanting to give a show worthy of his knightly potential every single time, feeling a chivalrous bond with fans and detractors alike, always determined to prove his worth to everyone. The only thing he loves more than his perfectionism is making the crowd leap in the air and roar with excitement and wonder, so he will sacrifice technical excellence on the altar of a risky, showy move every time if he thinks he has even the faintest chance to pull it off. However, in reality he's only technically excellent at a few things: 1) uppercuts, especially European uppercuts as in his finishing manoeuvre the “Justice Joust”, 2) back flip kicks (his showy back flip kick reversal is a go-to move whenever he has the upper hand to show his confidence), 3) suplexes (especially german suplexes) and 4) headbutts (jumping and falling headbutts are common, his alternate finisher is a diving headbutt onto a prone opponent's head from the top turnbuckle called “The Imperial Edict”, it is a component of the tag team finisher with Bartholomew the Last in The Chivalry Brothers). Aside from those 4 specialties, he is a middling wrestler who is improving as he wrestles, always learning from the wrestlers of this strange future time new ways to maintain control in the ring. As a result, his extreme confidence in his knightly and aristocratic superiority of natural ability sometimes outstrips his actual ability, leading to sometimes spectacular failures. If he gets someone in a submission, it's probably a torture rack or some kind of clutch (cobra clutch, colossal clutch, etc), and if he's running at you from any angle you can expect a powerful spear (Sir Justinian calls this his “Lance” though, and scoffs at people who compare them to the puny “Spears” of other wrestlers). Last but not least, if a grapple doesn't lead to an uppercut or a suplex, Sir Justinian is likely to be indulging in the execution of a crucifix, a move he has only just learned but already loves a great deal.
Finishing Manoeuver: Justice Joust (Impact)
Description of Finishing Manoeuver: Very European Uppercut.
A la Antonio Cesaro, with Sir Justinian tossing the opponent in the air and dropping them into a powerful European uppercut.
Alternate
Finisher: The Imperial Edict (Ground, Impact)
Description of Finishing Manoeuver: Diving Headbutt.
Sir Justinian runs into the corner while the opponent is prone, leaps onto the top of the turnbuckle and spreads his arms stiffly, bringing them down to his sides and executing a diving headbutt like a battering ram onto his opponent's skull. Against larger opponents or those with famously thick skulls, this leaves Sir Justinian out of it for nearly as long as his opponent (sometimes longer if his skull has already taken a pounding that match), so this is rarely used except as his half of the tag finisher, “The Inquisition”
Strengths: Aside from everything mentioned above that falls under strengths, Sir Justinian's biggest strengths are his energy, passion and heart. He doesn't know a lot of moves, and of those he knows there are only a few that anyone could call impressively developed. But he has a perfectionist's persistence and delusional levels of self-confidence, which are ever the friend of one learning a new sport and a new culture. He is a skilled tactician and gregarious companion, so he operates best in a tag team. Sir Justinian is fast enough to get a handle on smaller, faster opponents most of the time and tough enough that smaller opponents can sometimes find it difficult to wear him down.
Weaknesses: Aside from all the weaknesses listed in the above sections, Sir Justinian's overconfidence in his own abilities, delusional state of mind and incredibly gullible nature are his biggest exploitable weaknesses, making him very susceptible to mind games. If someone can convince him that someone else has performed an insulting, discourteous behaviour that went beyond the limits on someone Sir Justinian looks up to, admires or likes, he might issue a challenge before confirming all the details...and in the fight, a loss is likely if the opponent is able to trick or goad Sir Justinian into performing a risky, showy move that knocks him out cold instead of impressing the crowd and defeating the foe. Opponents larger than him tend to completely dominate him, but his tag team partner Bartholomew the Last excels at bringing giants, titans, super heavyweights and other powerful legends toppling from their great heights (as much as Sir Justinian sometimes might disapprove of the dirty methods used to do so).
