The latest Sub Zero show took place at Kowloon Park on the night before Heatwave X (29th June) in front of roughly 5,000 people. The evening went as follows.
Honor opened up the proceedings in a match against P.H.D. This was a great match, showcasing the talents of both young men with plenty of near falls. Honor managed to get free before the P.H.Driver could be hit and countered with the Moment of Zen to pick up the win.
Chaos Collection squared off against Achilles and DeMarcus Sargent. There was quite a bit of back and forth action as multiple tags were made and the cobbled-together pairing of Sargent and Achilles worked pretty well. It looked like it would end in a DQ as Asunder pulled out a fork to use on Sargent, but Achilles took him down from behind and locked in the Achilles heel. When Sargent kept Mykael from breaking it up, Asunder had no choice but to tap out.
Stephon Davis headed to the ring and cut a promo on his opponent for the night, Cyrus Porter. Davis, though respectful, told fans in no uncertain terms that he would get the job done and remain champion. He reminded us that he had-to this point-held it since it was introduced by Raze in a high profile tournament where he defeated finalist Bluebird at Honorbound. He then went on tp say that even if he did lose it one day, the fact that he was the very first to win the belt could not be taken away from him. Though fans were still divided, most of them seemed to be behind him.
"Jacknife" Sam O' Reilly went toe to toe with "Brutal" Ben David. This match featured many power moves and big hits as the large men hammered each other, getting the odd near fall here and there. The fight left the ring and, once the count was reset by David, spilled into the crowd. When they got back into the ring, O' Reilly started to make a comeback, but was shut down after a couple of minutes with a hidden low blow. When looking to finish it, Ben David slipped up, allowing "Jacknife" to hit his namesake move to end the match.
Phantom and Vyper, who returned to Troulbe Trax a while ago, were told they'd be taking on a team yet to be announced. Well, the time came and their opponenets were the SCF! This was a stunning match and one that kicked off the new team's run in a major promotion. The action was relentless as both sides tagged regularly, showed off power, technical mat wrestling and some high flying offense from Vyper. The crowd couldn't decide on a favourite as near fall after near fall was exchanged. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see a conclusion as they went to a time limit draw.
On the final match of the night, Cyrus Porter and Stephon Davis blew away the crowd in an excellent bout.
There were big hits, they took some high risks and wrestled very well, as they countered moves and other counters. As Trouble trax shows go, this was an outstanding match and one the bookers should be proud of. The audience were on the edge of their seats when they weren't standing and the action was top notch. Both men kicked out of one another's various finishing and signature moves, until a missed Down By Contact resulted in Stephon eating a Cy-rush (those name-related puns are terrible), giving Porter the win, ending Davis' long-running streak. When both men were able to get back up, they ended the night with a handshake and a manly hug, celebrating together.
All in all, a great night and an excellent way to whet our already big appetite for Heatwave. If the rumours are true about Stephon Davis, then I wouldn't bother with the rematch and instead, make the leap into the big league. With 5 matches, this was the biggest Sub Zero in quite a while, and easily one of the best.
