Pacing back and forth with a phone pressed to his ear is the now former IC Champion Alex Cross. He doesn't pay much attention to his surroundings as he pulls the phone away and looks at the screen before placing it back to his ear.
Munin call me back please, we need to talk as soon as possible.
He paused for a moment while closing his eyes.
I love you.
He sighs as he ends the call and slides the phone back into his front right jeans pocket. The sound of hands clapping seems to echo in the empty hall. Snapping Alex's attention away from his phone, and focusing on a man wearing a perfectly tailored Charcoal suit. His shag of straight black hair is capped with a fedora, a fedora that does not look the least bit ostentatious. A genuine smile pull at the corners of his topically serious mouth. Its a smile that reaches his exotic brown eyes.
"You know I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your performance. I haven't been so happy to sit through a show in years."
Alex looks at the man standing in front of him with disgust.
I thought I smelled cheap cologne and road kill. Should have known you were nearby. What do you want Hugin? I suggest you make it quick though because my patience won't last long.
"Neither will your body by the looks of it, and the cologne isn't cheap."
Hugin pushes off the wall, tucking his hands back into his pockets. His smile still firmly in place, perhaps even wider than before. He is obviously in no way intimidated.
"It actually cost more than you made in a day before you started wrestling, maybe even two."
Alex looks even more annoyed if that was possible.
What do you want Hugins? I don't have time or desire to banter back and forth with you. So does us both a favor and say what you have to say and leave.
"Actually you are much better off staying here with me than looking for Nin. Friendly words of advice...stay away from her for awhile. You sir have done a fabulous job of making business personal, and she had such high hopes for..."
He chuckles to himself while cocking his head to the side to look at Alex.
"Her golden boy..."
His voice turns rough before trailing off. Alex raises his right eyebrow in puzzlement.
What the hell are you talking about?
"Do you really want to know?"
Alex looks down at the watch on his left wrist.
Sure, I've got a few minutes for story time.
Chuckling, Hugin leans back against the wall, his smile back in full force.
"Story time, right. Once upon a time a bright young wrestler came to GZW. He was new the business and full of all things you would expect to find in a hero, and despite or perhaps because of his less than stellar past, he had all the best intentions in the world. Munin loved testing company heroes. It was like a game to her, she would even turn them into bets sometimes."
Alex looked at Hugin and shook his head.
Let me guess, I'm nothing more than a game to her. Is that it?
"Close, you were a game in the beginning, but it didn't last. No she did the unthinkable, she started to believe in you."
How horrible.
"More like unlikely. Do you know how many people that woman truly believes in?"
I only care that she believes in me. Nothing else matters so far as I'm concerned.
Hugin continues, obviously ignoring Alex, and making it clear that Alex's answer never truly mattered to him in the first place.
"I could probably count the people on one hand...its a small club. I think seeing the ways she started to look at you, in a way different than she looked at the other, that's when I first started to hate you. Not an emotion I was familiar with to be honest, but it was cemented the day she told me the game was off."
Pushing off the wall he begins to pace slightly, as if constant movement could help him escape the things he can't seem to forget.
"She said she believed you were the real deal, and would always come back from the edge to do what was right. Said you were her friend, and she didn't want to push you to do anything you'd regret. And for once I played the devil's advocate."
I haven't done anything I regret yet but keep talking and maybe we'll get there.
Hugin chuckles and it isn't at all nasty....it's full of pure amusement.
"I saw her starting to look at you the way she only looked at me, and I actively tried to sabotage it. In fact the last discussion we had before our falling out was about you. To be honest it likely is one of the things that lead to it. Not to say I blame it on you."
He stops his pacing to look Alex in the eye.
"I take responsibility for my actions and choices...Not like some people I know..."
He shrugs with a nearly boyish smirk.
"I'm just saying..."
Hugin I take full responsibility for everything I do inside that ring and outside of it. If you think I lost control of myself out there tonight when I assaulted Eva or the other night when I assaulted Leon then I suggest you pull your head out of your ass and look again. I knew damn well what I was doing out there and if the opportunity were to present itself again I'm sure the results would be the same.
Now I know you hate my guts because I've got the one thing in life that you can NEVER have and that's a relationship with Munin. And don't think I'm so blind to see that you've been lurking in the shadows all along trying to sabotage our relationship all with the hopes of swooping in and being her savior. Saving her from the big bad Alex Cross.
Alex takes a step towards Hugin, looking him in the eyes.
She will never love you Hugin. She will never be with you. She will never lower herself to your levels because honestly I doubt anyone other than you could get that low.
Taking a step back Hugin merely smiles.
"Hate you Alex? No I flat out adore you at the moment. I find you almost lovable...if you weren't you I might just give you a hug. Who needs to sabotage you when you are doing such a good job of sabotaging yourself."
You've yet to tell me just what the hell it is you're talking about Hugin and my patience is growing thinner by the minute.
"Have I, or are you just not listening? You attacked Eva after your match was over. It wasn't something you did unintentionally, in your own words you were in complete control. You have managed to do one of the few things that would cross the line from business to personal with Nin. You might not have gone to far yet, but don't worry on the path your taking you'll be there in no time."
With those parting words Hugin turns and starts walking away.
"I guess all men really do kill the thing they love, I'll be watching Alex. Your life is kinda like a train wreck...impossible to look away from it."
Alex looks on, puzzled by what was just said. He doesn't know whether to believe him or blow it off as nothing more than Hugin blowing smoke. Watching as the man walks off Alex reaches back into his pocket and pulls out his cellphone. He hits redial and puts the phone to his ear.
Munin please answer the phone. We need to talk....please.
He ends the call and slides the phone back into his pocket one last time.
