It was funny how no matter where you are one small bar is pretty much the same as the other.
What amounts to a garage band playing for free beer, if they are featuring live music. Mediocre popular music playing from an outdated sound system if you're lucky.
A shabby interior that will always look better at night under dim lights than in bright daylight.
And the same cast of characters wearing different faces, speaking different languages.
You had the bar flies, the working class, your professional drinkers, and your bartender.
Munin didn't fit into any of those groups, but she was occupying one corner of the bar all the same. It was easier to find peace in a place like this. Everyone was so wrapped up in their own lives and problems that they didn't spare much time on the small stranger. All the men that would hit on her had already been rejected, and while their pride was a bit hurt they weren't quite drunk enough yet to take offense.
It didn't matter to Munin whether they were or not, she was just staying long enough to mope in anonymity.
To lose herself in the flow of boisterous chinese, as the various patrons lost themselves to a night of drinking.
"I guess if you're drowning your sorrows, any place will do, huh?"
The anonymity didn't last, though surprisingly there would be no animosity either, even from the newly-reviled wrestler known as Kolic. He takes a seat near hers, but with one space in between just in case she felt like projecting her feelings at someone who wasn't a stranger.
"Drowning? I'm barely submerging them."
Her glass was set with a loud clack against the scuffed wood of the bar.
"And what are you doing in a place like this? It's not exactly a tourists hot spot after all."
Kolic: I was out for a walk and saw that guy set up at the bar-
He points his thumb at the camera guy.
Kolic: -and figured either someone from GZW was in here, or a tourist had the worst idea for how to capture their vacation. Besides, as weird as it sounds, I wanted to offer my condolences for how things went down between you and Alex.
He signals for the bartender and says something in Chinese, though the words sound vaguely American. He nods and brings Kolic a tumbler glass and pours something dark into it.
Despite her distrust she gives him and nod.
"Odd as it may be I appreciate it anyways."
Kolic takes a drink, flinches a bit, but smiles anyway.
Kolic: Glad to hear it. I may despise GZW and what it stands for, but I still care about the people involved. Gotta say though...Alex is making my case better than I can, and in that respect I'm not 100% mad at it.
"You can't blame Alex on a company. We all make our own choices, and we all deal with the consequences."
Kolic: Very true. But you can't deny that his obsession with Leon Corbin and the heavyweight title is what made him go off the rails. If it was just the two of you, no GZW to poison the relationship, would that fight have happened?
With a heavy sigh Munin pours another drink into her tumbler.
"Whose to say? Usually obsession is born from something. So who knows, if it wasn't the World Title it may have been something else. Either way I'm not really up for a debate on morals."
She downed her drink with a chuckle.
"I'm to busy being corrupted."
She turned to Kolic with a smile. If she was truly upset about anything it didn't show.
"You know what really pissed me off Kolic?"
Kolic: Heh...aren't we all.
He takes a last swallow of his drink and signals for another from the bartender. He starts to talk again but is interrupted by Munin's abrupt question.
Kolic: If you're referring to Alex's assault, my best guess is that he claimed that he tried to be the bigger person in the fight. Otherwise...eh, just go ahead and tell me.
"Alex? No, what pisses me off the most about you is that you proved me right. I really wanted to be wrong you know."
She put the cork back in the bottle with a grimace. What was the point in drinking in a dive to be alone, when you couldn't even be alone?
"I don't expect you to understand."
Kolic looks down at his new drink for a good few seconds. He lets out a sigh and looks directly at her.
Kolic: I know this is going to sound weird coming from me, but would you kindly get down off your high horse and try to consider things from my perspective for once?
She raises an eyebrow at him, and he keeps going before she can get a word in edgewise.
Kolic: It's been five years almost to the day that I showed up in GZW, trying my hardest to be a decent guy in an indecent world. I wasn't the only one, but I stuck around the longest. Five years...and you never thought I'd fail? Once? That's your fault for deluding yourself, not mine. Now, I'm sorry that things went down the way they did. But don't give me that fake attitude of "oh, I'm mad at myself for believing in you". You're upset because you expected me to be superhuman, and newsflash, even I'm not perfect. Never claimed to be. Deal with it.
"Oh bullshit, you've failed before, and I'm not pissed at myself. It's not that I never expected you to fail, I just didn't want you to give up."
She grumbled as she uncorked her bottle once more.
"Damn it, I really hate your face sometimes. Especially when I'm trying to drink."
After pouring herself another drink she glances at his now empty cup, and proceeds to pour him a drink.
"This burns less."
Kolic: Well, the next time you spend five years running headfirst into a brick wall, you keep going for that sixth and prove you're a better person than me. Put on your little pom-poms and rally the troops to never say die!
He makes exaggerated cheering motions to accentuate his point, then sees that she's both insulted his appearance and given him a drink. Weird.
Kolic: Heh, no doubt it wouldn't burn. This isn't a carbonated beverage from my hometown of Atlanta.
Munin along with a good portion of the bar stopped their drinking long enough to watch Kolic impromptu cheering session.
The first true laugh she's had in months bubbled up inside her to erupt in a fit of giggles.
"I don't know Kolic, you are very good at that...whatever that was."
Kolic was taken aback by this, but still managed to produce a smile.
Kolic: From you, I guess I'll take it.
"Yes well, you deserve another drink. This isn't at all what I thought our meeting would be like, but god knows what will happen when booze is involved. I could tell you stories of Eva that would shock you...or maybe not."
Kolic: Oh, trying to get me drunk so I don't show up and cause chaos at Titan? I see your game...whatever. Cheers.
He clinks his glass with hers, and lifts it up...then waits until she drinks and quickly dumps his in the well sink before she notices.
Kolic: Oh...that's tasty.
"Yeah, well show up or don't. If you can't show up tomorrow night after getting drunk at-"
It took her a moment to realize she didn't know what time it was.
"A moment..."
She checked her pocket watch with a quick noticeable glance.
"9:48pm then there is no help for you."
She squinted over his shoulder through the dimness of the bar room.
"Hey Kolic, is HKWF still pissed with you?"
Kolic: I wouldn't be sur-
He seemed to pick up on why she asked that out of nowhere.
Kolic: Uh...hey, mind getting me another shot?
With raised eyebrows she poured him another drink.
"I have a feeling that they aren't here to make small talk Marcus."
She suddenly seemed a lot more sober than she was moments before.
Kolic: Exactly why I need the liquid courage. Now, when I say go-
He's interrupted by a hand grabbing him by his shirt collar and turning him around. He responds by throwing the drink in his attacker's face, temporarily blinding him.
Kolic: Never mind Munin! Just try to get out alive!
"Pfft why do think I drink in dives."
With a wicked grin she jumps into the fray.
It's too chaotic to easily tell who is punching whom, but it's safe to say the HKWF wrestlers are counting on their numbers to win the day, especially with their higher overall sobriety levels. The camera man does his best to stay out of the melee while he tries to capture it on film. The result is a Cloverfield-esque scene of fists and yelling. It does happen to catch Kolic using a bar stool to block one attacker's fist, just before another one kicks him in the gut. Munin bashes one guy in the head with her bottle, which remains intact despite what the movies would have you believe.
Some how Munin and Kolic end up fighting beside each other once more.
"You know some how I'm not sure we come out of this winners."
Kolic ducks a punch and sweeps the attacker's legs.
Kolic: Screw winning, let's just get out!
He pulls out his tazer from under his shirt and jams it into the nearest HKWF attacker's gut. He continues to shock anyone in his way and clears a path for the two of them out of the bar. Once they (and the camera guy) get out, Kolic looks around and finds a rusted pipe lying nearby. He sticks it in the door handles, preventing anyone from leaving the bar. He gives the angry HKWF'ers a big troll smile and waves as he and Munin walk away with only a few bruises and scrapes to show for it.
"You know drinking with you is a lot more fun than I thought it would be."
Kolic: I wouldn't exactly call that "fun". Or "drinking", in fact.
He smirks a bit, unsure whether she notices or not. He does see that she hesitates a bit before they cross the street.
Kolic: Coca-Cola the whole night. Haven't touched alcohol in almost a decade. Were you wondering how I'm able to walk a straight line? There's your answer.
"Meh, leave it to you to suck the fun out of a drunken brawl."
She shrugged and continued to walk. Five drinks wasn't enough to get her drink, and what buzz she had was quickly fading. The curse of a high metabolism.
Kolic: And leave it to you to, intentionally or otherwise, bring a drunken brawl wherever you go.
They soon reach the hotel where the GZW talent is staying, and Kolic holds the door open for Munin. She walks in, and he checks to make sure they weren't followed........nope, they're good.
Her grin is unrepentant a s she walks through the door.
"Thank you."
Kolic: No problem.
They walk inside and start to go their separate ways; Kolic to one set of stairs and Munin to another.
Kolic: You go get some sleep. You have a big night of fighting my goon squad tomorrow.
"Fuckers punch like girls, night Kolic. Have fun tomorrow."
Kolic: Coming from you, that's a compliment. See ya.
The two both enter their respective stairwells, and the camera man hurries to get in an elevator just in case the rusty bar isn't as sturdy as they hoped.
