(OOC: My thanks to Jas, aka Sasha Foote for doing this dual with me)
The loud knocking on the hotel room door was enough to wake the dead, but instead woke Second City Wrestling's Sasha Foote. Still licking her wounds from her self inflicted defeat against Ajax, and now nursing an ankle injury, she cursed and buried her head in the pillow.
Icon Kellar: Sasha you have twenty seconds to open this door...
Sasha pulled herself out of bed, luckily for her with the time constraints set up by Kellar, she was wearing comfy shorts and a t-shirt as she opened the door, her blonde hair not as presentable as she would usually like.
Sasha: What are you doing here? I have an ankle injury...
Sasha opened the door more, allowing Kellar to come in if he chose to. The GZW2K1 Ring of Honor Icon stayed put, clearly unimpressed.
Icon Kellar: And I've got fifteen hours of jetlag and GZW2K1 handlers combing Kowloon Park for me. Get dressed.
Sasha: Get dressed? I can't even put a shoe on my right foot. I'm not training today, I can't. Sorry to waste your time.
Icon Kellar: If your showing against Ajax was anything to go by then it's too late. You've already wasted my time. Now that the Dojo's gone...
Sasha's eyes shot open.
Sasha: WHAT?! The Dojo is gone?
Kellar paused. He'd been hoping to keep that under wraps until later.
Icon Kellar: Yes... it's gone. Dyna's father bankrupted me after she died. I had to sell it to put a roof over my daughter's head.
Kellar took a deep breath.
Icon Kellar: But that's my problem, as is the fact that I have a title match against a Ring of Honor Icon to prep for and my best student is whining about a booboo. Get dressed.
Still in shock by the news of the Dojo, Sasha walked back to her room in silence.
15 minutes later she returned with her hair pulled into a ponytail, a pink and black workout sports top and matching pink and black workout pants.
Sasha: I can't put a shoe on...what should I do?
Icon Kellar looked her up and down.
Icon Kellar: This hotel have a pool?
-----
Half an hour later, Icon Kellar sat on the side of the pool, stopwatch in hand as Sasha finished her lap.
Icon Kellar: You've been practicing. You were never this fast when I was your Sensei...
Sasha grabbed the side of the pool, pulling herself up for air with a smile on her face at the compliment from Kellar.
Sasha: I workout everyday, well until I hurt my ankle. I always want to improve. Does that mean I get the rest of the day off of physical stuff with my ankle and all?
The usually tough Sasha put on her best puppy dog face hoping Kellar would give her the day off to prevent any further injury to her ankle. Kellar smiled.
Icon Kellar: Five more and you get a juice, ten more and I pay...
Sasha: Is that really a challenge? I could swim laps all day Kellar, you know me better than that.
Sasha smiled and dipped her head under water, before setting off on more laps in hopes of impressing her former sensei. Kellar smiled as she swam away, sighing contentedly.
---
Later, both wrestlers found themselves in the bar.
Icon Kellar: You know, your problem isn't your ankle, or your striking, or your takedowns. It's up here.
The Icon tapped his head.
Icon Kellar: You push yourself too hard because you're scared. Scared of letting yourself down.
Sasha stared at Kellar for a few seconds before nodding her head in agreement.
Sasha: Its not just because I'm scared of letting myself down. I'm scared of failing because if I fail, and find myself without a job, then how will my daughter eat? I'm her provider, she looks at me like I'm superwoman, I can't fail her.
Sasha glared at Kellar.
Sasha: What about you? Your heart doesn't seem in it anymore. Its because I graduated from the Dojo and you miss me isn't it?
Sasha couldn't hold back a chuckle. Kellar reluctantly nodded in agreement.
Icon Kellar: Truth is Sasha, I'm scared because I can't see the road ahead. Never could. But I always had her to guide me. Whether it was in the ring or running the Dojo she was always there to reassure me that I was doing the right thing, or to tell me if I wasn't. Now all I've got is my gut and for the first time I'm about to step into the ring and my gut is telling me I should be at home with Melissa, not in Hong Kong trying to make a quick buck with delusions of a grand comeback.
Sasha could see the anxiety on his face, the worry in his voice.
Sasha: If you don't think physically you're ready, I guess we can spar you want. Even with a bad ankle I think I can beat you. Cmon, what do you say?
Sasha punched him playfully on the shoulder. Kellar winced a little. Unsurprisingly considering her striking power as a former boxer/kickboxer. Kellar smiled, but shook his head.
Icon Kellar: You need to stay out of the ring for a while and let that heal up properly, and I know I've still got the tools.
He looked across at his former student.
Icon Kellar: And so do you, so why are you letting this woman get to you?
Sasha: Because I don't like her. I don't like the way she tries to discredit me or act like I'm a disgrace to wrestling. I work harder than most people and I just want to shut her up.
Sasha kicked her legs back and forth at the bottom of the bar stool.
Sasha: I know I can beat her I just have to worry about what comes after that. There are a lot of people who want to shut me up for good. The target on my back is big but so is the fight in me.
Kellar smiled.
Icon Kellar: That target never gets any smaller Sasha. Trust me, I've got three world titles that testify to that.
He takes a sip of his drink.
Icon Kellar: But remember, when you're in the ring, nothing else matters. Ajax beat you because you were fighting an opponent who wasn't even there.
Sasha: Did you really drag me out of bed to have me swim laps and then lecture me on Ajax?
Sasha was getting visibly frustrated now.
Sasha: I can beat him okay? That's the end of it.
Foote went to stand up from her bar stool to walk away, but Kellar grabbed her hand.
Icon Kellar: I'm sorry. It's just...
Kellar looked up at her
Icon Kellar: I want to see you do well. If the rest of my career is going to be selling out just to put food on my daughter's table, I want to know I'm leaving something good behind.
Sasha ran her hand through her blonde hair.
Sasha: You've left a lot of good behind already. Not just me, but your other students. You are harder on yourself than you should be, but don't come at me like I'm my own worst enemy when you're the one sitting here doubting yourself.
Sasha shook herself loose and made her way back towards her hotel room. Kellar ran his hand up and down his glass and sighed.
"When you're in the ring, nothing else matters. Eva beat you because you were fighting an opponent who wasn't even there"
