Kellar winced as yet another jab found its way though. He backed away, readjusting his helmet as he did
Icon Kellar: I wasn't ready give me a second…
Munin: "It's not that you aren't ready...you still aren't focusing."
Icon Kellar: I'm focussed enough...
Kellar moves his fists up into his "ready" pose.
Icon Kellar: Come on...
Munin took her time to examine him for a moment before moving. After feinting to the right she goes in for a roll punch to the right. Kellar slipped that one easily, and then another.
Icon Kellar: See, I'm plenty...
Smack! That closed his mouth pretty fast. He staggered back.
Munin: "Focused?"
She didn't give him time to regroup, and followed him with a stomp kick Kellar caught the kick and went to take Munin down to the mat with a dragon screw, but lost his grip as he turned, ending up on his back.
Kellar: God da…
Munin peered down at him with a quizzical look in her eyes
Munin: "What the hell just happened?"
Kellar: I slipped okay, it happens I didn't have my grip right
She offered him a hand to help him up, and Kellar took it. Getting back to his feet.
Munin: "You know I get it, I can't understand exactly what you are going through No one can do that because they aren't you, but I do understand that you are going through something"
She looked him in the eyes as she spoke and there was no pity or even sympathy, just a quite understanding. Kellar readied himself again
Kellar: I came here for the sparring, not for the counseling
Munin: "You can not step into the ring and spend more time fighting yourself in your head than your opponent in front of you"
Kellar: I can handle Eva…
Munin: "You could handle Eva and possibly give her a fight a fight worth showing up to the ring for but"
Without warning she preformed a perfect stomp kick once more, this time bringing him down to the mat
Kellar: Ow-ow…
Munin: "You have to focus"
She walked back to the center of the ring, and assumes her fighting stance, Kellar sat up, breathless.
Kellar: Let’s take a break
Munin shrugged her shoulders, and headed for her water bottle
Kellar sat up and held out his hand
Kellar: Hey, mate… there….
A nearby gym user looked across at Kellar, and threw him a nearby water bottle Kellar popped open the top and downed half the bottle in a matter of seconds
Kellar: That’s better…
Munin: "That kick is near impossible to anticipate and you managed to stop it No one can say you don't still have what it takes"
She thought about that and shook her head with a chuckle
Munin: "Actually they probably will say it, but anyone that's been in the ring with you would know better"
Kellar: Thanks… I think
Another drink of water
Kellar: It doesn’t matter anyway… win or lose, after this, I’m gone I’m going home
Munin: "Are you coming back?"
Kellar shrugged and took another drink. Munin gave him a skeptical once over For some reason she really wasn't believing it, but it was his lie So if he wanted to believe he could just walk away and everything would be fineshe would leave him to it
"It still matters what condition you return in Are you ready or do you need more time"
Kellar: Yeah… I’m good
Kellar pulled himself up and resumed his ready pose, leading with his left hand, and his right hand cocked back near his chin. Munin dropped to the ground for a leg sweep but Kellar jumped and threw a roundhouse kick towards his crouched opponent.
Munin took the hit with a roll back into standing position, and immediately followed with a hammer fist Kellar crossed his arms in front of his face and caught the hammer in the cross, before delivering a front kick to Munin’s stomach to push her away
Kellar: I keep telling you… Hammer Fists are too easy to block in a standing position
He circled her, and Munin grinned a happy grin to see him back in form
Munin: "And I keep telling you that kicks should be more than just a push"
She nailed him in the side with a low side kick, and it was no push. Kellar hit the mat hard from the impacted strike from the core. Kellar clutched at his side and went for a leg sweep of his own. Munin went down hard, but recovered quickly enough to roll away. She didn't fancy getting caught in one of Kellar's holds
Munin: "That's more like it"
Kellar: I thought we were sparring… I feel like my ribcage just shattered
Kellar got up to his feet, still feeling the impact of the earlier strike.
Munin: "Its not, I controlled it"
Kellar threw a right hand in anger, missing by a clear mile. Munin said nothing about it, there was no need to, her look clearly asked if he was taking up back alley brawling.
Another swing and a miss, and then another
Finally Munin stepped into the punch, blocked it, and followed through with a straight punch that she stopped just before it impacted his throat Kellar winced, waiting for the impact, but it never came. She pulled back into resting stance silently
Munin: "I think that is enough for today"
She gave a small bow, whether he wanted to accept the respect or not meant little to her. Begrudgingly, Kellar returned it, then turned his back and made for the edge of the ring without a word, pulling off his helmet.
Munin: "I left you a gift by your things, try not to enjoy it all at once"
Kellar rolled his eyes as he left the ring and made his way over to his gear. Next to it he found a bottle of plum wine, the same vintage he and Munin had shared after their match in COMPETE, and tied to the bottle was a note.
“You sold a building, a dojo goes where its master goes.”
And for the first time in weeks… Jon Kellar smiled a real smile…
