Munin sat on a gym bench drying off the sweat from her sparring match with a coarse white towel. Her cell phone was lodged between her shoulder and her ear, and her face was patient as she waited for Travis to answer the phone.
"Hello?"
Travis voice was heavy with the muffled tone of someone who is barely awake.
"Hey Travis, did I wake you up?"
A yawn is her first reply followed by a rustling sound that could only be covers.
"No...well yes kinda, but I'm awake now. What are you up too?"
Munin smiled at the young man's sleepy voice.
"Just finished having a sparring match with Kellar, and I was thinking of picking up one of your birthday gifts today. Soooo I wanted to know what you wanted, I could have just gone shopping with you..."
Travis gave a snort of laughter on the other end.
"Yes I know, it's not my fault that professor Milton gave me all this extra work last minute."
Munin sighed, she knew he was right and she didn't blame him for not being able to come. She just missed him.
"I know Travis I don't blame you..."
"Yeah you just miss me, it's ok I miss you too, but maybe it's better that I didn't come this time. It gives you time to deal with ...stuff."
Munin arched an eyebrow at that comment.
"I know we already talked about some of what's been going on a few days ago Travis, but we will need to talk again when I get home."
Another yawn was her first reply, obviously the thirteen year old wasn't as awake as he claimed.
"I know but mom...Look I know you don't want me involved in what's going on between you and Alex, but I saw what he said to you in the hallway. Don't let him get to you. I might just be barely a teen, but I can see how happy you've been. I still need to meet the guy, but I'm just glad that he makes you so happy right now."
Munin was silent for a moment before talking softly into the phone.
"Stop being so wise it feels like you're growing up too fast."
"Heh, you should know by now that I was born this awesome."
Munin did laugh at that it was impossible not to laugh when talking to Travis. His good humor was infectious to those around him...the little smart ass.
"Ok oh awesome one what do you want from China?"
"Surprise me with something cool for my room?"
"You've got it...hey I'll call you again before the show."
"I'll be waiting for it...be careful though."
"Always...love you Trav"
"Love you too."
"I'm going to let you get back to sleep, sweet dreams."
"Thanks"
With that she quietly hung up the phone. Neither of them enjoyed actually saying goodbye, so they typically didn't.
She wasn't left to her own thoughts for more than a moment before the phone rang again.
"Hello?"
