Sophia took a deep breath and centred herself, closing her eyes and taking her stance in the centre of the ring. The gym was dark, empty and quiet. She preferred it that way, especially with all the talk coming out of Redefine 14. Her Uncle’s appearance at Redefine 14 was not that unexpected, given his upcoming match against John Pariah, but that hadn’t made it any less of a shock to her system. Such was her disgust that she had left the arena almost as soon as she heard his music, and had avoided contact with just about everyone connected with either GZW2K1 or Redefine Pro. With a loud yell, she began her sequence, delivering kick after kick to her imaginary opponent, ducking the punches, keeping her rhythm, and finishing with a perfectly placed jumping spin kick. She landed perfectly and crouched, a smile on her face as she watched her imaginary opponent stagger back against the ropes. She took another breath. Her breath was met by another breath coming from the shadows. Sophia opened her eyes. Sophia: I thought you’d be half way to Japan by now… Icon Kellar: I have a few hours before my flight. I was hoping to see you after the show but… Sophia: Yeah well excuse me if I didn’t want to see you after that little exhibition… Icon Kellar: I just came to see Sasha… Sophia: You came to scout Pariah… something you could have done just as easily from a television set in Japan, but no, you had to fly all the way across the Pacific and watch him from the front row… because that’s what you do, you can’t do anything by half measure, you have to f**king well strut around like the king of the f**king universe… Icon Kellar looked down at his feet. If Sophia hadn’t known him better she’d swear he was feeling sheepish. Sophia: People are talking, you know… Icon Kellar: About what? Sophia: When your next appearance will be. There’s rumours of you facing Grayson Shaw… Icon Kellar: Redefine Pro couldn’t afford me. Sophia: From what I heard you’re going cheap these days… and even then failing to live up to your billing. Icon Kellar: Eva Hikari… Sophia: Is a great opponent but come on Uncle… you didn’t even TRY… some of us have to work day in, day out for what we’ve got but you’re coasting on your name to make a quick buck… and it works. Icon Kellar: I… Sophia turned round. Sophia: Aunt Sarah would be ashamed of you… Icon Kellar stepped forward with a snarl. Icon Kellar: Don’t you dare bring her into one of your petty tantrums. Sophia: Tantrums?!!! I moved half way across the country to get away from you and you flew half way across the world to sabotage it. You’re a heartless, gutless has been and you’re still getting more opportunities than I am. Icon Kellar: You’ve got a chance to become TV champion at Redefine Pro. A good chance!!! Sophia: Yes and you, once again, are f**king it up, because that’s all you ever do. Sophia turned towards him. Sophia: You know, my tag partner has been completely silent this week and do you know what people are thinking? “It’s a trick”, “it’s a swerve”, “she’s really going to team with her Uncle.” She walked towards her Uncle Sophia: Not “Can Sophia pull this off?” Not “Is Sophia good enough”… no… it’s “are she and her uncle going to team up again?” Thanks to you and your little “scouting mission” people can’t separate us. Every time I get a chance you show up with your halo and your history and your three World Titles and all anyone can see is you and the shadow you cast. I was close, so SO close to being “Silver” Sophia Wilson: pro wrestler, and thanks to you people are already thinking Sophia Wilson: Icon’s neice. Kellar took a breath as his niece glared at him, her eyes almost red with anger. Icon Kellar: Look I just… Sophia: Just f**k off back to Japan and pick up another half-ass paycheck “Mr Dynamite”… some of us have work to do. Icon Kellar: The tag match. Sophia didn’t answer. She turned her back and resumed her stance. Icon Kellar: Watch out for the painted one… he’s unstable but easily “distracted”… Again, no answer. Sadly, Icon Kellar turned and left the gym, letting the door close behind him. As the door slammed shut, Sophia dropped to the floor and buried her head in her hands. |
