The sound of heels clacking on the stone floor rang out loudly against the backdrop of the rain.
The dim lights of the courtyard illuminated the source of the sound in golden shadowed perfection.
Long black hair whipped behind her in the wind. Her eyes were shadowed and the slashes of her high cheekbones highlighted. Over one shoulder was the obvious glint of gold.
Two championship belts are not the type of accessories many would expect from her at first glance. They were a heavy weight and she was very small, but her step was sure and determined.
She’ed earned her titles with literal blood, sweat, and tears. There was no doubt in her mind about that, and in a world where so many things seemed uncertain she clung to her conviction. It was her lifeline.
Jericho was gone and she still wasn't entirely sure how she felt about it. She had loved him, but sometimes love is just not enough. He wasn't ready to be fully a part of a family, and she hadn't been fully ready to let go...as foolish as that was.
So Munin did what she typically did when amidst emotional upheaval. She threw herself into her work. Lord knows there was plenty to go around. Between preparing to open an amusement park and training for her match, she had all the work she could want.
It was working for right up until life threw her a new curve ball. Alex came back into her life slowly, though in all honesty she had to wonder if he ever fully left. One thing was before he was a changed man, and yet more himself now that he had been in years.
Their relationship was currently...complicated. They were dating more or less, but Munin wasn't quite ready to let him back in fully. No matter how much he reformed himself. Part of her was terrified that she never would be able to, and the other half was terrified that she would. So what did she do about this?
Simple, she worked. Buried herself even further into the responsibilities, though even that wasn't enough sometimes…
The heavy oak door that would lead into the live wire that was Emporium stood before her, and just looking at it she could almost hear Samedi. His words needling their way into her mind, too often too close for comfort. The thought of those probing words had her brushing a hand through her slightly damp hair in frustration. There was nothing for it though. In his own way Samedi was like a force of nature, there was no avoiding any future conversation, but it didn't have to happen tonight.
After bracing herself she made her way into the tavern.
So she was navigating her way through servers and customers alike. The music that filled the air was just as much blues as it was rock. It curled and slunk around the guest in electric coils of electric guitar, and a thrumming bass. Blacklights highlighted various posters and bottles full of alcohol. The same light painted Munin's pale skin in neon purple wherever it was exposed. After a few long minutes of this she made her way up the wooded steps to the VIP room, and left the chaotic revelry behind her.
Munin wasn't there to celebrate, though she should be celebrating. No, she was here because she had a few words to say to the company she had called home for so long. Words that would either choke it to death or give it new life. The truth was funny like that though, and this was a sink or swim situation.
Walking past the upstair bar, Munin instead slipped into one of the private balconies that overlooked bourbon street.
The lighting was dim, but soon a server was silently lighting a multitude of lanterns. After a few moments Munin could be seen clearly in the glow of the candle light. Her title belts glimmered, a silent siren's song to any wrestler. Instead of the customary Ground Zero backdrop there was a view of bourbon street in all of its hedonistic glory.
Just as she is murmuring a thank you to the server for a chilled drink the GZW cameraman moved in.
“Hello boys and girls, it’s been awhile hasn't it.”
The new World Champion leaned forward ever so slightly to snag her drink. A small amused smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.
“Too long some might say, but then someone saying anything at this point would be welcome wouldn't it? I had in all honesty expected something by now at least from Champa or Mongrel.”
Amber liquid sloshed around in her crystal tumbler, as she swirled the cup idly.
“Champa was supposed to get on the mike and prattle on about how once again he had made a superstar, and what a disappoint I've been to him. That I was squandering the great opportunity that HE gave me.”
Instead of gaining heat, her voice remained calm and vaguely amused. The roll of her eyes told the viewer exactly what she thought about this theoretical statement.
“Of course my reply to that would be a truly eloquent speal, about how everything that comes out of Champa’s mouth is bullshit. The harsh reality is that Champa has never beaten me. Not a once, and despite how much this company wanted him to put me down this time he couldn't deliver. Now that he has been defeated once again he doesn't have shit to say.”
She stopped the movement of the tumbler to take a sip, the liquid gently swirling still in motion against her lips.
A sigh of bliss escapes her as the aged brandy mixed with sweet cider hits her pallet.
“I almost regret the need to add salt to his wounds, but I do have an obligation.”
She trailed one hand over her golden belts. Allowing one fingertip to caress and trace the design on the front plate.
“Do you see these belts? I bled for these...I fought with everything I had to get them, but in truth I don't even want them.On the other hand I don't see a single person on this roster that deserves them, and this long silence only proves it. You would like to blame me for it, and you probably will. It's easier to blame me than face yourselves…”
After taking one more sip, the Lady of the Coliseum set her drink to the side. Her face revealing an obvious disappoint in her fellow wrestlers.
“Do you have any idea how much I hoped that one of you would show the initiative to confront me? To show me that any of you that still had pride and love for what you do?”
“This company is not what it once was. Once it was the mecca of talent in the wrestling world. It was a hive of activity that had people traveling from across the globe to audition for the chance to join. it's a sinking ship, and your new champion has been silent…Where was the anger? Where was the person who cared enough, or had enough balls to call me out?”
“I’ll tell you where they were. They were waiting for me to take you like sheep. Guide you with my words, as to what you are supposed to do next. You were waiting for me to bail out your ship without bothering to pick up a bucket. Like a toddler waiting for it's mother to wipe its ass.”
At this point her vaguely amused smile twisted into a venomous grin.
“At least there was one person whose spinelessness did not surprise me. Joshua never had much of a spine to begin with but at least in the past he made an effort. So Joshua tell me how did it feel to betray the one friend you had left in this company. How about I use your own words when you addressed Kolic. “Good job buddy. You have officially become the thing you claimed to be trying to rid this company of. You tried to excavate the poisoned well, but got thirsty and drank from it instead.” The truth is Joshua that at one time I thought you had a streak of potential in you a mile.wide, and so I helped you. I pushed you and molded you from a gimmicky pathetic mess, turned you into a man willing to stand behind his own name. No however I realize that you are nothing more that a cowardly little bitch. You knew that there was no way you would ever beat me in a fair fight, and so you waited for your moment to stab me in the back. While your silence is not a surprise I have to say that you pissed me off the most. What sort of professional wrestler pulls something like that and then says nothing. Even Kolic had the decency to capitalize off of the phenomenally stupid stunt he pulled. But you? Nothing. You are possibly the biggest embarrassment in this company. Though with the state of things as of late I'm shocked the idiots haven't made you their spokesperson.”
She broke off from whatever else she may have said to grab her glass for another drink.
“I hope you sleep well at night Joshua, because this time you have no gimmick to hide behind. Just yourself, Joshua Dane all alone.”
She paused here to sip her drink, and allow her words to sink in. I even a few words were to sink their barbed heads.
“In case my position has not been clear enough allow me to paint you a picture. I am not your mother, and I refuse to save people he won't even save themselves. It's sad really to see that you have forsaken yourselves as much as this company has forsaken you...but there it is.”
There was genuine regret on her features for a moment, but it was quickly smoothed away. She couldn't afford to let sentiment ruin things after all. Sometimes the only way to get people to swim was to throw them into the deep end. Despite how distasteful it may be.
“Well I for one am not going down with a burning ship, and neither are these titles.”
She set her drink to the side once more to hold up her belts for the camera.
“I will be taking these to my own personal playground in Purity Louisiana. The promotion they will call home may not be Global but at least they can remember why they wrestle, and embrace it: the good, the bad, and the ugly. ”
The belts came back to rest in her lap and were caressed like a favored pet. The movement of her hands constantly pulling the viewers attention back to their golden glimmer.
“If any of you decide that you are ready to wipe your own butt and step up to me, then you know where to find me.”
A wide Cheshire grin blossomed on her tainted red lips, before she hammered the final verbal nail in the casket.
“Until then farewell and good luck...you're going to need it.”
The camera pulled away as she turned away to enjoy the splendid view of New Orleans night life coming out to play. From the first level of the establishment the band and vocalist can faintly be heard, singing a well loved classic for their marks.
“Hi-dee hi-dee hi-dee hi! Woah-a-a-a-ah”
