The professional wrestling landscape has changed. Iconic Strategic Investments announced June 17 that it had reached an agreement to purchase GroundZero Wrestling 2K1 from Ground Zero Enterprises. Under the agreement, I.S.I. would take control of GZW2K1 with former GZW2K1 color commentator Joshua Samson in charge of the federation. GZG agreed to keep a minority interest in GZW2K1 along with programming rights. I.S.I. co-founder Brian Tredol became the chief executive officer of the new GZW2K1 Inc.
"We’re going to re-establish GZW2K1 as the champion of professional wrestling entertainment," Tredol said. "There is huge untapped potential for the franchise, and with Joshua Samson on board, we will crank everything up to make the GZW2K1 franchise bigger, better, stronger and more entertaining."
Samson, Tredol and Cedric Southern, Ground Zero Global President of General Entertainment Networks, would not disclose the price of the sale but Wit Soundview media analyst Jordan Rohan told Variety that GZW2K1’s value was between $10 million and $15 million.
Samson said he is focused on turning GZW2K1’s fortunes around.
"Wrestling fans can rest assured that we will give GZW2K1 the adrenaline shot it needs to once again become the most exciting brand of wrestling in the world," he said.
Tredol said GZW2K1 fans would not notice immediate changes, noting that "some changes will be evolutionary, some changes will be revolutionary." He also hinted at a relaunch of GZW2K1 programming and storylines, probably after the deal is finalized in July or August.
