Acting president Naoki Sugehayashi oversaw the signing ceremonies for the upcoming UJW SuperHeavyweight and Jr. Heavyweight title matches today at the TV Asahi presentation room.
Manabu Uwano was the number one man in the Japanese professional wrestling industry during his last reign as UJW SuperHeavyweight Champion and even released a book about that time. He hasn't challenged since losing it in mid-2003, but finally gets the chance when he meets new generation king and reigning champion, Nakanishi. United Japan brought up how Uwano got past "top class" challengers in his first and (to date) last reign as champion, such as Sincere, Bushido, Kensuke, Takayama, and Fujita. Mr. Saikyo said he has had many ups and downs in the four years since he dropped the title, but feels the wind is blowing in his favour. Uwano said when he was champion, Nakanishi was the Young Lion king, but he can't compare the Nakanishi of that time to the Nakanishi now, as the latter is much stronger. Nakanishi's defenses against Nakamura and Leon Taylor won Uwano's heart, and he called Naka a wonderful champion. Nakanishi called Uwano his strongest challenger, but in April wants to return to America, specifically GroundZero Wrestling 2K1, with the belt in hand. Nakanishi thinks Uwano is being generous by calling him "the number one champion" and wants him to come to Osaka as "Killer" Uwano. He admitted that the image of himself is that of a "defensive" champion, who is often the underdog, but plans to attack Uwano's kicking leg to prevent his sharp strikes. Rather than a generation fight, Nakanishi believes their match in Osaka will be a battle of two individuals, and wants to bypass this great challenge so he can return to Atlanta, Georgia in triumph shortly after.
