SILENT WITNESS
The squared circle's enigma proves blunt on modern relationship myths
"And I look at them and I wonder, if we exposed their private lives, would they pass their own standards?"
Special to the Globe and Mail
He's talking about people who insult his friend Vernon Vanderbilt (founder of Protecting the Lives of Wrestlers) and the PLOW head's husband to be, Leon Taylor.
"I just see a couple with a little girl," Desolate says. "Two guys, but... Say what you will about Neon [Taylor], but to his daughter, he's not "the Vicious One". He's Daddy, a father she's only just getting to meet because of her mother's petty stupidity."
Of his own family, consisting of his partners Jessica Bell and Rachel Llyod, Desolate says little-- but it's illuminating if you watch.
"Look at my little girl," Des gestures, giving a trademark barely there smile. "Just look at her."
Then, his speech is stilled as his hands are occupied with the coffee mug before him.
DESOLATE MU IS A MAN of few words. But when he speaks, whether they admit it or not, the other wrestlers on the GZW 2K1 watch. Be it the Newmarket based "Silent Enigma's" astounding ring performances-- as Pro Wrestling News put it, "Even when he looses, we win"-- or his eloquent but to the point American Sign, deeds really do speak for this Canadian of wonderfully mixed heritage ("Mutts are healthier than purebreds," is the dry rejoinder when he's asked)."
Today, Desolate sits in a Newmarket Landmark, the Wimpy's Dinner on the corner of Main and Davis. He's eating after the interview, but the waitress seems to appear whenever his black coffee threatens to be empty. To the locals, he's Mr. Mu, or Desolate, or Des. To one boisterous but will dressed man with a lovely voice from Australia, he's "Dessy". If there are fans here, they give room to the man variously called "the Gun", "the Ace of Diamonds" and of course the "Silent"
