Rumours recently suggest the return of Chris "Uncle" Cairns at the upcoming Aftermath2K7 pay-per-view event in Atlanta, Georgia. Cairns - who vowed never to appear on GZW2K1 television ever again - makes regular contributions to HotWire Magazine via his highly popular and controversial column, The Cairns Opinion, but it is understood that he denies all rumours of a return to live GroundZero TV.
Cairns was on a six figure salary with GZW2K1 between December 2004 and June 2006, and was easily one of the most charismatic assets the company ever had, what with his technical in-ring ability, popular magazine column and highly entertaining weekly interview segment, The Chris Cairns Show. But it all went downhill for Cairnsy as he grew frustrated with the company he had so came to love, and his contract was terminated in July 2006 via mutual agreement. Cairns' downfall can be atrributed to the following factors...
- Cairns was unhappy with the huge pushes the likes of Jon Kellar and Zander Frost recieved. With Kellar especially, there was alleged backstage heat. Cairns saw Kellar as mediocre at best, and insists much of 2006's dire ratings and revenue could be blamed on Kellar's massive push, as well as the huge egos of the likes of Zachary Sharp and Zander Frost, those men insisting they be pushed back into the limelight despite lengthy, unexplained absecnes.
- Cairns would cut an infamous shoot promo which eventually led to his contract termination, in which he heavily critisied almost the entire GZW2K1 booking team and roster. Targets included the aforementioned Zachary Sharp and Jon Kellar, as well as the GZW2K1 bookers for their handling of the Heatwave III pay-per-view.
- Cairns was extremely irate with the massive pushes the likes of Red Dragon and Jason Thomason recieved, particuarly the fact that both men were included in the dire Heatwave III main event.
- Cairns grew bored of his love storyline with Devotion Profit, which ran for almost a year.
- Cairns was unhappy with the treatment his best friend, "The God of Pain" Bane recieved from the backstage staff. Despite being on the active roster the entire time, Bane was not booked in a single pay-per-view event for fourteen months in a row. Cairns believed Bane was made to pay for his premature stint in the main event slot in late 2004/early 2005. Cairns believes Bane was always made to pay for what was fundamentally a booking error, in which Lord John Taylor dropped his HKWF World Heavyweight Championship to Bane via a miscommunication between HKWF and GZW2K1 bookers, thus 'ruining' the eventual showdown between Seth Raide and John Taylor.
Eventually Cairns had grown jaded and fed-up with wrestling. Since leaving GZW2K1 in July 2006 he has been concentrating on his UK indie band, The Idles (www.myspace.com/theidlesuk), with whom he is the vocalist and lead guitarist. For the past fourteen months there has been next to no talk of a Cairns return - safe from a brief flurry of excitement when his column, The Cairns Opinion, appaeared on the Heatwave IV HotWire Live edition earlier this year. But now, with Aftermath2K7 just around the corner, rumours are running rampant that the Manc is set for a return. So, what could the future hold for Chris Cairns....?
1. He may very well bring back The Chris Cairns Show for a fourth series.
2. He may be instantly elevated into the upper-midcard, as a face, feuding with heels.
3. One interesting rumour suggests he and Bane may reform their ReCreation tag team and gun for the Tag Team titles.
But whatever the case may be, nothing has been confirmed, and so we're all just gonna have to wait until Aftermath2K7 to find out.
